Gradient boosting: A computationally efficient alternative to Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling for fitting large Bayesian spatio-temporal binomial regression models

open access: yesInfectious Disease Modelling
Disease forecasting and surveillance often involve fitting models to a tremendous volume of historical testing data collected over space and time. Bayesian spatio-temporal regression models fit with Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods are commonly ...

Connecting the distribution and diversification of marine plants

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Integration of the evolutionary history with distribution of extant species is necessary to explain present‐day diversity, particularly for ‘foundation' species, such as seagrasses, which create habitats of socioecological relevance. Here, we resolved if varying evolutionary history of seagrass families has imprinted the distribution ranges of extant ...

Accelerating stochastic gravitational wave backgrounds parameter estimation in pulsar timing arrays with flow matching

open access: yesPhysics Letters B
Pulsar timing arrays (PTAs) are essential tools for detecting the stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB), but their analysis faces significant computational challenges.

Range‐wide sampling reveals cryptic lineages but largely conserved mycorrhizal associations in the Japanese fairy lantern Thismia kobensis

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
The jewel‐like flowers of Thismia are as rare as they are beautiful, often recorded from only a single site per species. Access to 15 populations of T. kobensis has enabled an uncommon, range‐wide assessment of morphology, genetics, and fungal partners. Our analyses showed that T.

Waves of range dynamics and gene flow characterize the biogeographic history of Litsea elongata, a dominant tree in East Asian evergreen broadleaved forests

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Evergreen broadleaved forests (EBLFs) represent an iconic vegetation type in subtropical montane East Asia, but they are experiencing intensifying anthropogenic pressure and increasing habitat fragmentation. Here, using a dominant and widespread tree species characteristic of East Asian EBLFs, we examine its phylogeographic history and evaluate what it

Bayesian Nonparametric Inference for a Multivariate Copula Function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper presents a general Bayesian nonparametric approach for estimating a high dimensional copula. We first introduce the skew-normal copula, which we then extend to an infinite mixture model.

First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

A Markov Chain Monte Carlo Procedure for Efficient Bayesian Inference on the Phase-Type Aging Model

open access: yesStats
The phase-type aging model (PTAM) belongs to a class of Coxian-type Markovian models that can provide a quantitative description of well-known aging characteristics that are part of a genetically determined, progressive, and irreversible process.

Dynamical Sampling with Langevin Normalization Flows

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
In Bayesian machine learning, sampling methods provide the asymptotically unbiased estimation for the inference of the complex probability distributions, where Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) is one of the most popular sampling methods. However, MCMC can

Intranasal diamorphine population pharmacokinetics modeling and simulation in pediatric breakthrough pain

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, Volume 14, Issue 3, Page 435-447, March 2025.
Abstract Intranasal diamorphine (IND), approved for managing breakthrough pain in the UK, has been identified as an acceptable alternative offering effective, expedient, and less traumatic analgesia for children. However, the current dose regimen in pediatric populations relies on clinical expertise while the pharmacokinetics properties are poorly ...
