Compton Scattering of Fe K alpha Lines in Magnetic Cataclysmic Variables

open access: yes, 2007
Compton scattering of X-rays in the bulk flow of the accretion column in magnetic cataclysmic variables (mCVs) can significantly shift photon energies. We present Monte Carlo simulations based on a nonlinear algorithm demonstrating the effects of Compton

Global Burden Related to Nitrous Oxide Exposure in Medical and Recreational Settings: A Systematic Review and Individual Patient Data Meta-Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The risk of adverse effects of nitrous oxide (N2O) exposure is insufficiently recognized despite its widespread use. These effects are mainly reported through case reports. We conducted an individual patient data meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of

Metal‐Supramolecular Drug Delivery System Empowered Meningeal Lymphatic Vessels‐Bridged Intracranial‐Peripheral Dual Immune Modulation for Reversing Glioblastoma Immune Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel metal‐supramolecular nanoplatform (FLM@VC) enables efficient brain delivery via meningeal lymphatic vessels (MLVs), bypassing the blood‐brain barrier (BBB) through subcutaneous administration. It reprograms tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs) and remodels the MLVs to promote DC trafficking and CD8+ T cell activation.

Obliquity of the Stapes in Otosclerosis: A New Radiological Sign

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2016
Introduction Observing the obliquity of stapes by closely scrutinizing the HRCT temporal bone in otosclerosis revealed a reliable and consistent finding. This finding can add to the existing radiological criteria in diagnosis of otosclerosis.

Clinical, Genetic, and Pathologic Variability in Myelodysplastic Syndromes and Precursor Conditions Across Race, Ethnicity, and Sex

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The epidemiology of myelodysplastic syndromes/neoplasms (MDS) is challenging to define due to inconsistent reporting, complex diagnostic procedures, and evolving diagnostic criteria. Using the National MDS Natural History Study—a prospective cohort with centrally adjudicated histopathology and genetic variant review—we characterized the ...

Generic Feasibility of Perfect Reconstruction with Short FIR Filters in Multi-channel Systems

open access: yes, 2011
We study the feasibility of short finite impulse response (FIR) synthesis for perfect reconstruction (PR) in generic FIR filter banks. Among all PR synthesis banks, we focus on the one with the minimum filter length.

The decline of 6‐thioguanine nucleotides is not linked to impaired efficacy or safety of thiopurines in pregnant women with inflammatory bowel disease

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background Thiopurines are used to maintain remission in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). These drugs are metabolized into 6‐thioguanine nucleotides (6‐TGN), associated with efficacy, and 6‐methylmercaptopurine ribonucleotides (6‐MMPR), associated with adverse drug reactions. Pregnancy has been linked to a shift in thiopurine metabolism, characterized

On the Generation of Medical Question-Answer Pairs

open access: yes, 2019
Question answering (QA) has achieved promising progress recently. However, answering a question in real-world scenarios like the medical domain is still challenging, due to the requirement of external knowledge and the insufficient quantity of high ...
