A clinicopathological investigation on morphological alterations of red blood cells among treated and untreated type II diabetes mellitus patients

open access: yesIndian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology
Introduction: The cross-sectional study was designed to analyze the morphological changes occurring in red blood cells (RBCs) among patients with type II diabetes mellitus (type II DM) and to investigate the association of these changes with various ...

DETECTing Merkel Cell Polyomavirus in Merkel Tumors

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2020
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, aggressive skin cancer caused either by Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV) T antigen expression, post-integration (~80% cases), or by UV-mediated DNA damage.

Impact of Irrigation Scheduling on Corn Yield and Water Balance in Sandy Soils of Central Minnesota Using the EPIC Model.

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Efficient irrigation scheduling is critical in sandy soils to achieve optimum yield and maximum net benefit with minimum environmental concerns. The Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC) model was used to study the impacts of autoirrigation of corn on crop yield and soil water balance during 2019–2021 at −300 and −450 kPa for loamy ...

Cost-effectiveness of alternate strategies for childhood immunization against meningococcal disease with monovalent and quadrivalent conjugate vaccines in Canada.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
BackgroundPublic health programs to prevent invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) with monovalent serogroup C meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV-C) and quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccines (MCV-4) in infancy and adolescence vary across Canadian

Operator Product Expansion for Exclusive Decays: B^+ ->Ds^+ e+e- and B^+ -> Ds^{*+} e+e-

open access: yes, 2000
The decays $B^+\to D_{s,d}^+e^+e^-$ and $B^+\to D_{s,d}^{*+}e^+e^-$ proceed through a weak and an electromagnetic interaction. This is a typical ``long distance'' process, usually difficult to compute systematically. We propose that over a large fraction

Safety Assessment and Hypoglycemic Effect of Moringa oleifera Lam. Seed Lectin (WSMoL) in Alloxan‐Induced Diabetic Mice

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Moringa oleifera Lam. seeds contain WSMoL, a lectin previously studied for toxicity and pharmacological effects. In this study, we investigated WSMoL (10, 25, or 50 mg/kg i.p.) for acute and 14‐day repeated‐dose toxicity, as well as genotoxicity, in Swiss mice.

Molecular and Clinical Characterization of the Hb Tübingen [β106(G8) Leu→ Gln, HBB: c.320 T>A] Associated With Congenital Methemoglobinemia in a Chinese Family

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Congenital methemoglobinemia caused by hemoglobin variants is a rare hematological disorder often misdiagnosed due to overlapping features with enzymatic defects. Hb Tübingen, a β‐globin chain variant (βCD106), is characterized by increased autoxidation, heat instability, and cyanosis.

MCV and Merkel cell carcinoma: a molecular success story [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Virology, 2012
Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV), discovered in 2008, is clonally integrated in ~80% Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC). MCV is a common skin flora and initiates cancer in susceptible hosts only after it acquires a precise set of mutations that render it replication incompetent. Both MCV large and small T proteins promote cancer cell survival and proliferation.

Novel Laboratory Approaches in Heavy Chain Disease With Discordant Immunoglobulin Quantitation: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
In this study, we investigated a rare case of γ‐heavy chain disease (γ‐HCD) through an integrated laboratory approach. Routine protein analyses (serum protein electrophoresis, immunotyping, and serum/urine immunofixation) identified an IgG monoclonal component without detectable light chains.
