The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

Comparing Optimal Portfolio Performance Based on Skew-Normal Distribution and Skew-Laplace-Normal Distribution: A Mean-Absolute Deviation-Entropy Approach [PDF]

open access: yesمدیریت صنعتی
Objective Investors typically seek to strike the optimal balance between potential returns and associated risks in their trades. Various models have been presented to choose the optimal portfolio using different approaches.

Mean Absolute Deviations about the Mean, the Cut Norm and Taxicab Correspondence Analysis

open access: yesOpen Journal of Statistics, 2020
Optimization has two faces, minimization of a loss function or maximization of a gain function. We show that the mean absolute deviations about the mean, d, maximizes a gain function based on the power set of the individuals, and it is equal to twice the value of its cut-norm.

Hits-and-misses for the evaluation and combination of forecasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Error measures for the evaluation of forecasts are usually based on the size of the forecast errors. Common measures are e.g. the Mean Squared Error (MSE), the Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) or the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE).

Density functional theory using an optimized exchange-correlation potential

open access: yes, 1995
We have performed self-consistent calculations for first and second row atoms using a variant of density-functional theory, the optimized effective potential method, with an approximation due to Krieger, Li and Iafrate and a correlation-energy functional
