Mean squared error of empirical predictor

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 2004
The term ``empirical predictor'' refers to a two-stage predictor of a linear combination of fixed and random effects. In the first stage, a predictor is obtained but it involves unknown parameters; thus, in the second stage, the unknown parameters are replaced by their estimators.

Evaluation of in vitro toxicity of common phytochemicals included in weight loss supplements using 1H NMR spectroscopy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

Alternating minimum mean square error hybrid beamforming algorithm in mmWave MIMO system

open access: yesDianxin kexue, 2017
The two-stage hybrid beamforming architecture can solve the problem of limited number of RF chains effectively. However,it is still difficult to design a hybrid beamforming algorithm with better performance. In order to achieve higher spectral efficiency ...

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

LPI Optimization Framework for Radar Network Based on Minimum Mean-Square Error Estimation

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
This paper presents a novel low probability of intercept (LPI) optimization framework in radar network by minimizing the Schleher intercept factor based on minimum mean-square error (MMSE) estimation.

On mutual information, likelihood-ratios and estimation error for the additive Gaussian channel

open access: yes, 2005
This paper considers the model of an arbitrary distributed signal x observed through an added independent white Gaussian noise w, y=x+w. New relations between the minimal mean square error of the non-causal estimator and the likelihood ratio between y ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

A stochastic behavior analysis of stochastic restricted-gradient descent algorithm in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents a stochastic behavior analysis of a kernel-based stochastic restricted-gradient descent method. The restricted gradient gives a steepest ascent direction within the so-called dictionary subspace.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...
