Optimum design of chamfer masks using symmetric mean absolute percentage error

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing, 2019
Distance transform, a central operation in image and video analysis, involves finding the shortest path between feature and non-feature entries of a binary image.

Minimum Mean Squared Error Estimation and Mutual Information Gain

open access: yesInformation
Information theoretic quantities such as entropy, entropy rate, information gain, and relative entropy are often used to understand the performance of intelligent agents in learning applications. Mean squared error has not played a role in these analyses,

Optimum Thresholding Using Mean and Conditional Mean Square Error [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2017
We consider a univariate semimartingale model for (the logarithm of) an asset price, containing jumps having possibly infinite activity (IA). The nonparametric threshold estimator of the integrated variance IV proposed in Mancini 2009 is constructed using observations on a discrete time grid, and precisely it sums up the squared increments of the ...

ABCD Neurocognitive Prediction Challenge 2019: Predicting individual fluid intelligence scores from structural MRI using probabilistic segmentation and kernel ridge regression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We applied several regression and deep learning methods to predict fluid intelligence scores from T1-weighted MRI scans as part of the ABCD Neurocognitive Prediction Challenge (ABCD-NP-Challenge) 2019.

Higher Order Mean Squared Error of Generalized Method of Moments Estimators for Nonlinear Models

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2014
Generalized method of moments (GMM) has been widely applied for estimation of nonlinear models in economics and finance. Although generalized method of moments has good asymptotic properties under fairly moderate regularity conditions, its finite sample ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Geometric View of Measurement Errors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The slope of the best fit line from minimizing the sum of the squared oblique errors is the root of a polynomial of degree four. This geometric view of measurement errors is used to give insight into the performance of various slope estimators for the ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Optimal Mean Squared Error Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesAIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control Conference and Exhibit, 2002
The problem of forming images that are optimal with respect to a Mean Square Error (MSE) criterion, based on nite data, is considered. First, it is shown that the MSE criterion is consistent with the general goal of classifying images, in that decreasing the MSE guarantees a decrease in the probability of misclassifying an image.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
