Sequential Test for Arbitrary Ratio of Mean Times Between Failures

International Journal of Operations Research and Information Systems, 2011
This paper describes a planning methodology and tools for a truncated SPRT (sequential probability ratio test) for checking the means ratio of the times between failures (assumed to be exponentially distributed) of two items. The problem is considered for the situation in which the ratio may differ from unity, whereby the results are applicable for any

An assessment of mean time between failures for a group of rolling bearings

2011 International Conference on Quality, Reliability, Risk, Maintenance, and Safety Engineering, 2011
Rolling bearings are usually considered to be non-repaired items the reliability of which is characterized by mean time to failure, or so called basic rating life. Reliability describes these parameters well in case the bearings are used in operation up to the very time the failure occurs, or during the time corresponding with basic rating life.

Control of mean time between failures

International Journal of Control, 1994
A new optimal stochastic control problem is posed. The criterion is to maximize the mean-time-between-failures criterion given a certain reference value. It is shown that this control problem is closely related both to the problem of minimizing the variance of the signal—minimum variance control — and to the problem of minimizing the so-called ...

Sequential Testing for Comparison of the Mean Time Between Failures for Two Systems

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 2007
This study deals with simultaneous testing of two systems, one "basic" (subscript b), and the other "new" (n), both with an exponential distribution describing the times between failures. We test whether the mean TBFn/MTBFb ratio equals a given value, versus whether it is smaller than the given value. These tests yield a binomial pattern.

Assessment of mean time between failures of metrological support and control of production

2014 12th International Conference on Actual Problems of Electronics Instrument Engineering (APEIE), 2014
Any parametres have a relevant Annotation - mean time between failures diminishes in the process of system activity before some minimum value, corresponding to a set stationary process of restoration. This fact causes necessity to study in detail issues relating to stability of systems to support efficient functioning of metrological systems.

Bayesian estimation of the difference between two mean times to failure

Stochastic Analysis and Applications, 1992
This paper is concerned with the problem of allocating a fixed number of trials between the failure times of two independent components with unknown mean times to failure , in order to estimate with squared error loss. Introducing independent gamma priors on θ and ω, a fully sequential procedure is derived and shown to be nearly optimal.

Influence of Operation Conditions on Mean Time Between Failures of Valve Assemblies in Gas Distribution Networks [PDF]

open access: possibleChemical and Petroleum Engineering, 2014
We have examined the requirements of valve assemblies used in gas distribution networks, reviewed the materials used for making packing surfaces of ball cocks, analyzed the basic causes of failures, conducted experimental studies, and determined the contribution of each wearing process (wearing due to friction of packing surfaces of shutoff unit ...
