Measurement While Drilling (MWD)
1987MWD is the process by which certain information is measured near the bit and transmitted to surface without interrupting normal drilling operations. The type of information may be: (a) directional data (inclination, azimuth, toolface); (b) formation characteristics (gamma-ray, resistivity logs); (c) drilling parameters ...

Nuclear Logging-While-Drilling Measurement: An Assessment
Proceedings of Middle East Oil Show and Conference, 1997Abstract The state-of-the-art in nuclear logging-while-drilling measurements is discussed. Recent improvements in design and interpretation to address the difficulties encountered by these measurements in the dynamic borehole environment that exists are described. Examples of evaluation of the measurement from field data are given.

SPE Bergen One Day Seminar, 2014
Abstract Drilling engineers have been calculating hydrostatic pressure greater than reservoir pressure in almost all conventional drilling applications. This has resulted in various drilling challenges, such as reduced rate of penetration, differential sticking, mud losses, formation damage, wellbore stability, and formation fracture and

Seismic Measurement While Drilling in Azerbaijan and Brazil
IADC/SPE Drilling Conference, 2002Abstract This paper presents field results obtained while drilling difficult offshore wells in Azerbaijan and Brazil using a new service that delivers conventional check-shot data while drilling. The operation is similar to a conventional wireline operation in that it uses a surface-deployed source and downhole receiver.

Application Of Measurement While Drilling In A Shallow, Highly Deviated Drilling Program
Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology, 1985Abstract In choosing a survey system for a directional drilling project, consideration must be given to the production penalties associated with an off-target wellbore as well as to the simple comparison of survey costs.

Accuracy Prediction for Directional Measurement While Drilling
SPE Drilling & Completion, 2000Summary In this paper a new method for predicting wellbore position uncertainty which responds to the current needs of the industry is described. An error model applicable to a basic directional measurement while drilling (MWD) service is presented and used for illustration.

Successful Implementations of Drilling Microchips for Distributed Measurement while Drilling
International Petroleum Technology ConferenceAbstract Access to downhole properties is essential to ensure the safety and efficiency of drilling operations. This study describes successful implementations of drilling microchips to acquire circulating pressure and temperature while drilling. It also elaborates on our developed scheme for depth conversion of the measured data.

Review of Downhole Measurement-While-Drilling Systems
Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1983Summary Several downhole measurement-while-drilling (MWD) systems are currently being developed and some are already in use on a commercial basis. These devices all have sensors located immediately above, or near, the drill bit to monitor drilling variables and, in some cases, formation properties.
