Modulating Purothionin Accumulation and Signal Peptide Cleavage Fine‐Tunes Wheat Flour Gluten Properties to Improve Cookie‐Making Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dual genetic strategies for improving wheat processing quality by regulating purothionin accumulation to modulate gluten quantity and quality. The first strategy involves targeting signal peptide (SP) cleavage sites (e.g., through mutation) to indirectly reduce gluten content, thereby disrupting gluten network formation.

No need for meat as most customers do not leave canteens on Veggie Days

open access: yesnpj Climate Action
Switching to a diet lower in red meat has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Using a unique time series of daily sales data from three German university canteens from 2017 to 2019, we analyse the effects of a monthly Veggie Day in a food ...

Early Detection of Cell Death Using Transmembrane Water Exchange Magnetic Resonance Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cell death is important in both the development and treatment of cancer. In this study, it is demonstrated for the first time that a specific measurement of the transmembrane water exchange rate using magnetic resonance imaging can be used as an early marker of cell death in mammalian cells, in animals and in human patients. Abstract Cell death plays a

Combined Photothermal and mTOR‐Targeted Therapy Overcomes Immune Evasion and Enhances Checkpoint Blockade Efficacy in Metastatic Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that photothermal therapy, while inducing immunogenic cell death in triple‐negative breast cancer, paradoxically activates the oncogenic mTOR pathway to drive immune evasion. To counter this, a smart nanocomposite is engineered to co‐deliver localized hyperthermia and mTOR inhibition.

Initial Distance‐Dependent Mean Force Drives Synaptic Vesicle Motion Toward Fusion Sites in Stimulated Hippocampal Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Synaptic vesicle (SV) motion and exocytosis dynamics in the presynaptic terminals of live neurons are intimately linked to synaptic transmission during neuronal activity. In this work, it is revealed that, during electrical stimulation, SVs located farther from their fusion sites exhibit greater straightness and experience larger mean forces directed ...

Single‐Target Pairing System (StarPair) for Large‐Scale Interrogation of Cell–Cell Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a single‐target pairing system, StarPair, enabling cell–cell interaction studies by target combination in droplets. StarPair offers superior pairing efficiencies over 95% and operation frequencies of 105 pairs per 9.5 h for two‐target pairing, allowing large‐scale interrogation of immune cell‐cancer cell interactions and precise ...

THE 2002 US FARM BILL'S IMPLICATIONS FOR COMMODITY MARKETS AND CANADA'S AGRI-FOOD SECTOR [PDF]

open access: yes
This report's intent is to analyze the 2002 US "Farm Bill" to determine whether it is production and trade distorting, and how it will affect commodity markets as well as how it will affect Canadian agri-food.
