The Electronic, Optical, and Mechanical Properties of Quasi-One-Dimensional Molybdenum Sesquisulfide Mo2S3: A Density Functional Theory Study

open access: yesMaterials Open
In this work, a study on structural, electronic, optical, and mechanical properties of monoclinic-type Mo2S3 (space group P21/M) has been examined. Optimized lattice constants of [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]Å, [Formula: see text][Formula: see ...

C9orf72 ALS‐causing mutations lead to mislocalization and aggregation of nucleoporin Nup107 into stress granules

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.

Novel and unscrutinized immune entities of the zebrafish gut

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Understudied cells of the zebrafish immune system include bona fide immune cells and epithelial (‐derived) cells with immune functions. Research focusing on zebrafish cells which demonstrate similarities to mammalian immune cell counterparts may help us understand the pathologies in which they are implicated. Currently available and advanced tools make

From lactation to malignancy: A comparison between healthy and cancerous breast gland at single‐cell resolution reveals new issues for tumorigenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing reveals an opposite role of SLPI in basal tumors based on metastatic spread, along with shared activation of specific regulons in cancer cells and mature luminal lactocytes, as well as downregulation of MALAT1 and NEAT1 in the latter.

Methods Used to Evaluate Pain Behaviors in Rodents

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2017
Rodents are commonly used to study the pathophysiological mechanisms of pain as studies in humans may be difficult to perform and ethically limited.

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Synthesis of nano-alumina and their effect on structure, mechanical and thermal properties of geopolymer

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2019
This paper reports on a study of the effects of nano-alumina on the structural, mechanical and thermal properties of geopolymer matrices. Sample composites were produced by mixing metakaolin, an alkaline solution and nano-alumina (1%, 2% and 3%) with a ...

Cancer cell death induced by the NAD antimetabolite Vacor discloses the antitumor potential of SARM1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacor, a compound converted into the toxic metabolite Vacor adenine dinucleotide (VAD) by the nicotinamide salvage pathway enzymes NAMPT and NMNAT2, exhibits antitumor activity by inducing rapid and complete NAD depletion. We report that Vacor toxicity is limited to cell lines expressing high levels of SARM1, a NAD glycohydrolase.

A Dataset for Mechanical Mechanisms

open access: yes
This study introduces a dataset consisting of approximately 9,000 images of mechanical mechanisms and their corresponding descriptions, aimed at supporting research in mechanism design. The dataset consists of a diverse collection of 2D and 3D sketches, meticulously curated to ensure relevance and quality. We demonstrate the application of this dataset

Protein kinase FAM20C—when subcellular localization matters

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FAM20C is a Golgi‐resident kinase that phosphorylates proteins along the entire secretory pathway. The presence of potential FAM20C substrates in the cytoplasm or nucleus raises the question of how the kinase and its substrates encounter each other. Protein kinases achieve signaling specificity through consensus sequence recognition and subcellular ...
