Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Calculation of rockfill deformation based on the generalized plastic framework

open access: yesShuili Shuiyun Gongcheng Xuebao
Rockfill is the primary load-bearing material in earth-rock dams, crucial for withstanding water pressure. Developing a constitutive model that accurately describes its mechanical properties is essential for predicting the stress and deformation in high ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Investigation of correlation of biochemical marker expression and mechanical properties of preterm membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The fetal membrane surrounds and supports the developing fetus during the pregnancy. The cellular structure of the fetal membrane and the proteins synthesized by the cells of amniotic and chorionic membranes, maintain the mechanical integrity of the tissue membrane. Rupture of the fetal membrane is a fundamental stage in normal term delivery.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Antiferromagnetic sawtooth chain with Heisenberg and Ising bonds

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2009
The sawtooth chain with pairs of S=1/2 spins interacting with XXZ-interactions placed on each second tooth is considered. All other interaction bonds are taken to be of Ising type.
