Swelling of mechanical pulp fines

Cellulose, 1999
The objective of the study was to determine the swelling of different types of mechanical pulp fines. The physical and chemical characteristics of the fines were also examined. It was found that the degree of swelling correlates with the proportion of fibrillar material, that is fibrillar content of the fines.

Use of Enzymes in Mechanical Pulping

2018
Mechanical pulping process is an energy-intensive process. Enzyme treatment of wood and pulp is an attractive alternative to reduce energy demand in the refining process and to introduce novel functional properties of fibers. This chapter discusses the use of enzymes in mechanical pulping process.

Experiments on Specific Energy and Pulping Quality of Extrusion Mechanical Pulping

Key Engineering Materials, 2011
In order to select rational screw parameters for improving the pulping quality, efficiency and reducing specific energy, the paper studied the effects of the rotational speed of screw, lead number of reverse thread and slot width of reverse flight of the twin screw pulping extruder (TSPE) on specific energy, flux and pulping quality (reject rate, fiber

Electro-brightening of mechanical pulp

2009
The electro-oxidation of sodium carbonate (Na₂C0₃) to percarbonate (C₂O₆²⁻), with its subsequent hydrolysis was investigated as a means to produce peroxide and to drive the in-situ electrochemical brightening of thermo-mechanical pulp. The conditions for the electrochemical production of peroxide and factors that affected the in-situ electrochemical ...

Bleaching of mechanical pulps: Implications of demethylation of pectin for pulp brightness

Appita Annual Conference Proceedings, 2005
Dithionite bleaching of mechanical pulps and fractions thereof could be boosted by enzymatic pretreatment with pectinmethylesterase (PE). As a consequence of hydrolytic action of PE partial demethylation of pectin occurred with a concurrent release of methanol and increase in pulp charge.

Fluorescence spectroscopy of mechanical pulps

1994
Corrected steady-state fluorescence emission spectra of various mechanical pulps and celluloses were measured using an excitation wavelength of 320 nm. Regardless of its source, cellulose displayed a relatively high characteristic emission. The emission spectra of mechanical pulps were red-shifted with respect to that of cellulose, and peak shapes were
