Connecting caddisworm silk structure and mechanical properties: combined infrared spectroscopy and mechanical analysis [PDF]
The underwater silk of an aquatic casemaking caddisfly larvae (Hesperophylax occidentalis) is viscoelastic, and displays distinct yield behaviour, large strain cycle hysteresis and near complete recovery of its initial strength and stiffness when ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Enhanced exfoliation technique for the separation of graphene nanosheets [PDF]
Graphene sheets are carbon-based materials which combine exceptional electron conductivity, mechanical strength and optical transparency. Graphene nanosheets were fabricated by an enhanced, safer and mild technique in a shortened processing time. Samples

EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Extreme mechanical diversity of human telomeric DNA revealed by fluorescence-force spectroscopy
Significance G-quadruplex (GQ)–forming G4 DNA, made of four repeats of guanines, is implicated in many important processes. Telomeric GQs are being studied extensively as anticancer drug targets.

We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Mechanical Spectroscopy Of Ordered Binary Au-Cu
We have studied a binary Au-Cu single crystal by mechanical spectroscopy. Upon very slow cooling from high temperatures, additional relaxation peaks arise at lower frequencies in isothermal spectra after the disappearing of the Zener peak below 665 K due

Production and mechanical characterization of graphene micro-ribbons
Patterning of graphene into micro- and nano-ribbons allows for the tunability in emerging fields such as flexible electronic and optoelectronic devices, and is gaining interest for the production of more efficient reinforcement for composite materials ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...
