Aerodynamic Effects of Ceiling and Ground Vicinity on Flapping Wings

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
The combined ceiling and ground effect on the aerodynamics of a hovering flapping wing is investigated using numerical simulations. In the simulations, the wing was located between the ceiling and the ground.

Bio-inspired nano rotor investigation based on UVLM

open access: yesBiosurface and Biotribology, 2019
Nano rotor is of great value in military and civilian applications. Due to its nano size, it works at an ultra-low Reynolds number and aerodynamic performance deteriorates dramatically.

Experimental investigation on electromechanical deformation of dielectric elastomers under different temperatures

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2015
Under an applied voltage, dielectric elastomers (DEs) produce an actuation strain that is nonlinear, partly because of the material properties. In this study, an experimental characterization is conducted to evaluate how the ambient temperature and pre ...

Mechanical strength of tooth fragment reattachment

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research, 2001
The aim of this study was static and fatigue test investigation of the strength of a tooth fragment reattached with adhesives to the tooth body. Central bovine incisor teeth were used, and standardized fragments were obtained by cutting the incisal edge of the selected teeth.

Thermo-Elasto-Hydrodynamic Characteristics Analysis of Journal Microbearing Lubricated with Rarefied Gas

open access: yesMicromachines, 2020
Temperature rise and elastic deformation are unavoidable issues occurring in high-speed gas microbearings due to the dominant small-scale fluid dynamics in rarefied gas flow applications.

Damage Mechanisms and Mechanical Properties of High-Strength Multiphase Steels [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2018
The usage of high-strength steels for structural components and reinforcement parts is inevitable for modern car-body manufacture in reaching lightweight design as well as increasing passive safety. Depending on their microstructure these steels show differing damage mechanisms and various mechanical properties which cannot be classified ...

CNN Training with Twenty Samples for Crack Detection via Data Augmentation

open access: yesSensors, 2020
The excellent generalization ability of deep learning methods, e.g., convolutional neural networks (CNNs), depends on a large amount of training data, which is difficult to obtain in industrial practices.

Twin-induced plasticity of an ECAP-processed TWIP steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The TWIP steels show high strain hardening rates with high ductility which results in high ultimate tensile strength. This makes their processing by equal channel angular pressing very difficult.

Mechanical Strength of Stripped Optical Fiber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A novel removal technique of silica optical fiber coating with chemical stripping gel was used. We observed that the fiber strength decreases from 5.48 to 4.96 GPa in the case of tensile test and from 0.06 to 0.05 GPa in the case of bending test when the coating was removed from the cladding surface.
