Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Numerical Simulation Study on Welding Process of Upper Frame of Hydropower Unit

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To optimize the welding process of the upper frame of the hydropower unit, a thermal elastic–plastic (TEP) finite element model of the typical T-joint of the upper frame was established, and the effectiveness and accuracy of the model were verified by ...

Report of the sensor cooler technology panel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The Sensor Cooler Technology Panel identified three major areas in which technology development must be supported in order to meet the system performance requirements for the Astrotech 21 mission set science objectives. They are: long life vibration free

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Research on Skin Friction Drag Reduction by Vibrant Wall

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2011
To reduce aerodynamic drag, reduction of skin friction is required. Vibrant flexible wall has been proposed to reduce skin friction drag for a long time. However, there are many problems for the flexible wall to get practical durability, easy maintenance

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Fatigue Damage Assessment of Turbine Runner Blades Considering Sediment Wear

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The wear phenomenon that occurs on the blades during operation has a significant impact on the fatigue life of the blades. To address the issue of fatigue life assessment for turbine runner blades subjected to increased dynamic stress due to sediment ...

High-power baseline and motoring test results for the GPU-3 Stirling engine [PDF]

open access: yes
Test results are given for the full power range of the engine with both helium and hydrogen working fluids. Comparisons are made to previous testing using an alternator and resistance load bank to absorb the engine output.

Thermal behaviour of single ply triaxial woven fabric composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper studies the complex thermal deformation of single-ply triaxial weave com- posites. This behaviour is studied experimentally, by testing ?at plates and narrow strips of TWF, and numerically, by carrying out ?nite-element simulations that ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
