Active control of mechanical vibrations

Bell Labs Technical Journal, 2009
Recent advances in digital signal processing and actuation technology have opened the door to applying active control to reducing mechanical vibrations and acoustic noise. Because these techniques work best at lower frequency, they complement conventional passive damping techniques, which are most effective at higher frequencies.

On the mechanics of vocal-fold vibration

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1976
The human vocal fold is treated as a continuous, transversally isotropic, bounded medium. The theory of viscoelasticity is applied to formulate the stresses, strains, glottal tissue impedance, and propagation characteristics for sinusoidal oscillation within the vocal-fold tissues.

Mechanical vibration and 35S incorporation

Environmental Research, 1969
Abstract Occupational trauma in the form of vibration is implicated in the increased occurrence of osteoarthritis, systemic sclerosis, and Raynaud's phenomenon in certain industrial workers. Since only histochemical and histologic changes were delineated in previous studies, this investigation evaluated effects of controlled mechanical vibration on ...
