Effect of ergothioneine on tissue metabolism in middle-aged and aged mice [PDF]

open access: yesJichu yixue yu linchuang
Objective To investigate the effect of ergothioneine(EGT) on tissue metabolism in middle-aged and aged mice. Methods Nine-month-old middle-aged and aged C57BL/6J mice were selected to be gavaged with EGT aqueous solution at the dose and frequency of 35 ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Proteome and ubiquitinome analyses of the brain cortex in K18-hACE2 mice infected with SARS-CoV-2

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Clinical research indicates that SARS-CoV-2 infection is linked to several neurological consequences, and the virus is still spreading despite the availability of vaccinations and antiviral medications. To determine how hosts respond to SARS-CoV-

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Discovery of Zharp1-163 as a dual inhibitor of ferroptosis and necroptosis for the treatment of inflammatory disorders and kidney injury

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Dysregulation of cell death plays a critical role in the onset and progression of numerous human diseases. Distinct forms of regulated cell death, such as necroptosis and ferroptosis, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of various conditions ...

Quantum Zeno Effect Explains Magnetic-Sensitive Radical-Ion-Pair Reactions

open access: yes, 2009
Chemical reactions involving radical-ion pairs are ubiquitous in biology, since not only are they at the basis of the photosynthetic reaction chain, but are also assumed to underlie the biochemical magnetic compass used by avian species for navigation ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Posttranscriptional Control of Neural Progenitors Temporal Dynamics During Neocortical Development by Syncrip

open access: yesAdvanced Science
The development of the mammalian neocortex is precisely regulated by temporal gene expression, yet the temporal regulatory mechanisms of cortical neurogenesis, particularly how radial glial cells (RGCs) sequentially generate deep to superficial neurons ...

Computational modeling to elucidate molecular mechanisms of epigenetic memory

open access: yes, 2015
How do mammalian cells that share the same genome exist in notably distinct phenotypes, exhibiting differences in morphology, gene expression patterns, and epigenetic chromatin statuses?
