A Robotic Urinary Bladder Enabling Volume Monitoring and Assisted Micturition

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An implantable robotic bladder is presented that can store urine in an origami‐designed enclosure. An inductance sensing principle can monitor and transfer the urine volume in real‐time. It can actively expand based on the amount of urine collected from kidneys and apply on‐demand mechanical compression to assist urination.

Sub‐Micrometer‐Precision Path Following of Piezo‐Actuated Mobile Robot

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article reports on the Holonomic‐Beetle (HB), a palm‐sized robot that achieves sub‐micrometer (sub‐µm) precision path tracking across spatial ranges from 100 µm to 10 mm. Using proportional‐integral‐derivative (PID) control, the HB accurately tracks both complex and straight paths with sub‐µm path errors, surpassing existing robots.

Tendon‐Driven Compliant Wheel‐Less Snake Robot for Undulatory Locomotion Using Conformable Ground Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study presents a tendon‐driven compliant snake robot that uses globally applied vertical bending and axial twisting along its body to enable various gaits. Body deflection from compliance and weight passively generates the ground contact patterns required for locomotion.

A Neural Network‐Based Self‐Sensing Embedded Position Control System for Shape Memory Alloy Wire Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Shape memory alloy wires exhibit thermally induced phase changes that generate actuation strain and resistance variations enabling self‐sensing. However, hysteretic electromechanical behavior complicates accurate state estimation. This paper presents an artificial in‐based self‐sensing method to reconstruct SMA actuator position in real time, achieving
