Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Calmodulin mediates melatonin cytoskeletal effects

Experientia, 1993
In this article, we review the data concerning melatonin interactions with calmodulin. The kinetics of melatonin-calmodulin binding suggest that the hormone modulates cell activity through intracellular binding to the protein at physiological concentration ranges. Melatonin interaction with calmodulin may allow the hormone to modulate rhythmically many

Acetate‐Mediated Effects of Ethanol

Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 1994
Ethanol has been shown to increase markedly portal blood flow, primarily by increasing intestinal blood flow. This effect of ethanol is reproduced by acetate, infused at rates equivalent to those leading to endogenous acetate production following ethanol administration.
