A cellular system to study responses to a collision between the transcription complex and a protein‐bound nick in the DNA template

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

Incidence of intravenous drug incompatibilities in intensive care units

open access: yesBiomedical Papers, 2015
Aims: Drug incompatibilities are relatively common in inpatients and this may result in increased morbidity/mortality as well as add to costs. The aim of this 12 month study was to identify real incidences of drug incompatibilities in intravenous lines ...

Side-Channel Sensing: Exploiting Side-Channels to Extract Information for Medical Diagnostics and Monitoring

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine, 2020
Information within systems can be extracted through side-channels; unintended communication channels that leak information. The concept of side-channel sensing is explored, in which sensor data is analysed in non-trivial ways to recover subtle, hidden or

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Assessment of Amazon Comprehend Medical: Medication Information Extraction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In November 27, 2018, Amazon Web Services (AWS) released Amazon Comprehend Medical (ACM), a deep learning based system that automatically extracts clinical concepts (which include anatomy, medical conditions, protected health information (PH)I, test names, treatment names, and medical procedures, and medications) from clinical text notes.

Preparation and properties of three dimensional printing materials made from biopolymers for medical applications [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2006
A preliminary study employing a mixture of natural polymers for three dimensional printing (3DP) technology was carried out to determine the influence of mixture composition and post-processing technique on their physical and mechanical properties ...

Cytoplasmic delivery of antibodies through grafting a functional single complementarity‐determining region loop

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We achieved cytoplasmic delivery of non‐cell‐penetrating IgGs by grafting a single functional complementarity‐determining region 1 (CDR1) from the light chain variable region (VL) of the cell‐internalizable 3D8 antibody. The engineered IgG acquired cell‐penetrating ability while maintaining antigen affinity, highlighting CDR1 grafting as a promising ...
