Time of flight for photon in human skin

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Photonics & Engineering, 2016
The time of flight for photons in human skin was measured using picosecond diode laser. Two different wavelength lasers were used - 405 nm and 510 nm. A difference for time of flight in normal skin and in nevus was observed as well as a difference for ...

Statins induce monocytic differentiation in acute myeloid leukemia cells through the KLF4/DPYSL2A axis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Statins, identified via the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database, promote monocytic differentiation and apoptosis in non‐APL AML cells by upregulating DPYSL2A through a KLF4‐dependent pathway. Mevalonate supplementation reversed these effects, indicating involvement of the mevalonate pathway.

Transcriptional regulation of neuropeptide receptors underlies context‐dependent adaptation in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under environmental changes, the expression level of neuropeptide (NP) and neuropeptide receptor (NPR) genes changes to confer context‐dependent adaptation to the model organism Drosophila melanogaster. Through finding more regulatory elements in the NPR genes in comparison with their ligands (NPs), we found that NPR‐biased transcriptional regulation ...

A practical approach on radioprotection in the treatment of radioiodine for thyroid cancer

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences, 2018
There are several protocols for the treatment and follow-up of differentiated thyroid cancer. All of them gather evidence on the evolution and treatment and try to establish a treatment standard.

A unified model for Duchenne muscular dystrophy gene involvement in cancer: context‐dependent tumour suppression and oncogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We propose a context‐dependent model where the Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) gene acts as a tumour suppressor in aggressive tumours and as an oncogene in less aggressive ones. We propose this model as a unified framework to explain the opposing survival associations with DMD expression and to guide experimental exploration of the dual role of DMD ...

Breakthrough Infection and Death after COVID-19 Vaccination: A Physics Perspective [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Physics and Engineering
The largest universal immunization in history has occurred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The developed COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to provide protection against severe forms of COVID-19 by inducing anti-spike neutralizing antibodies. It has
