Thermogenesis from Intravenous Medium‐Chain Triglycerides

Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 1991
Eighteen hospitalized patients dependent on total parenteral nutrition (TPN) were randomly enrolled into a prospective study comparing intravenous long‐chain triglycerides (LCT) with a physical mixture of 75% medium‐chain triglycerides (MCT) and 25% LCT.

Hypoglycemia induced by medium-chain triglycerides

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1974
Abstract 1. 1. In starved and anesthetized dogs, the infusion of medium-chain triglycerides (1 g/kg body weight) led to a significant drop in plasma glucose and a significant rise in insulin. 2. 2. Hypoglycemia and hyperinsulinemia were also observed with triglycerides of odd-numbered fatty acids (trinonanoate). 3. 3. Hypoglycemia induced

Medium Chain Triglycerides in Parenteral Nutrition

Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, 1981
Until recently, medium chain triglycerides (MCT) have not been used in parenteral nutrition (PN) although they are considered to be ideal sources of energy on account of their biochemical properties. The tolerance and utilization of 10% fat emulsion with 75% MCT was tested on 10 healthy males after an overnight fast.

Nutritional properties of medium‐chain triglycerides

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1968
AbstractThe biological effects of MCT (medium‐chain triglycerides) differed from those of conventional fats, and certain of these suggested examination of the fatty acid composition and triglyceride structure of the adipose tissues and other organs of rats which were fed medium‐ or long‐chain triglyceride mixtures with two levels of linoleic acid ...

Use of Medium Chain Triglycerides in Malabsorption

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1967
Excerpt Recent clinical observations have indicated that triglycerides containing medium chain fatty acids may be useful in decreasing the steatorrhea associated with a variety of malabsorptive dis...

Medium chain triglycerides and structured lipids

Lipids, 1987
AbstractLipids are an essential component of our body composition and necessary in our daily food intake. Conventional fats and oils are composed of glycerides of long chain fatty acids and are designated as long chain triglycerides (LCT). Body fat as well as the fats and oils in our daily intake fall into this category.

MEDIUM‐CHAIN TRIGLYCERIDES IN A KETOGENIC DIET

Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, 1977
SUMMARYTrue congenital herpes simplex viral (HSV) infections have been reported infrequently and have been associated èith various ‘congenital’ malformations. Microcephaly, microphthalmia, intracranial calcifications, chorioretinitis, congenital heart disease and abnormal digits have been associated èith presumed congenital HSV infection.
