Reducing free formaldehyde emission, improvement of thickness swelling and increasing storage stability of novel medium density fiberboard by urea-formaldehyde adhesive modified by phenol derivatives

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 2021
International audienceNotwithstanding the enormous benefits of medium density fiberboard, free formaldehyde emission and low water resistance are the significant disadvantages to reducing their application.

Comparison of Water Resistance for Modified Medium-Density Fiberboard

Forest Products Journal, 2022
Abstract Commercial medium-density fiberboard (MDF) products, specifically manufactured for water resistance, were evaluated over 8 days under three water exposure regimes: 90 percent relative humidity, one-sided water spray, and one-sided wet pad. A three-cycle wet-pad and drying exposure test was also performed.

Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis Related to Medium-Density Fiberboard

Archivos de Bronconeumología (English Edition), 2012
Pneumonitis due to hypersensitivity to wood fiber is mainly associated with the fungus that colonizes it. We present the case of a male affected with hypersensitivity pneumonitis in which the agent implicated was medium-density fiberboard, an engineered product whose main component is pine wood fiber.

Effects of Post Heat-Treatment on Surface Characteristics and Adhesive Bonding Performance of Medium Density Fiberboard

open access: yesMaterials and Manufacturing Processes, 2009
A series of commercially manufactured medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels were exposed to a post-manufacture heat-treatment at various temperatures and durations using a hot press and just enough pressure to ensure firm contact between the panel and ...

Isolation of cellulose nanocrystals from medium density fiberboards

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2017
Cellulose fibers have been successfully isolated from medium density fiberboards (MDFs) by sodium chlorite oxidation-potassium hydroxide (NaClO2-KOH) leaching process, at 37.6% yield, comparable to the 39.3% and 37.3% cellulose fibers from eucalyptus and eucalyptus with 12% cured urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin, respectively.

Cost–Benefit Analysis of Medium-Density Fiberboard Production by Adding Fiber from Recycled Medium-Density Fiberboard

Forest Products Journal, 2018
Abstract Waste medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is mostly disposed of in landfills and left for incineration. The consequences of filling MDF waste to the landfill include undesirable associated costs and environmental problems caused by incineration.

Thermokinetic analysis and product characterization of Medium Density Fiberboard pyrolysis

Bioresource Technology, 2018
This study investigates the pyrolysis of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) as a potential waste management solution. Thermal behaviour of MDF was analysed via TG/DSC. The primary decomposition step occurred between 190 °C and 425 °C. Evolved gaseous products over this step were evaluated by a FTIR spectrometer coupled with TGA.

Properties of medium density fiberboards made from renewable biomass

Bioresource Technology, 2007
The goal of this study was to determine the comparative properties of dry-formed medium density fiberboards (MDF) made from renewable biomass (wheat and soybean straw) and those from conventional soft wood fiber. The MDF properties evaluated were modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, internal bond strength, thickness swell, and screw holding ...
