A Ratio Model of L1/L2 Norm for Sound Source Identification

open access: yesSensors, 2020
In the field of sound source identification, robust and accurate identification of the targeted source could be a challenging task. Most of the existing methods select the regularization parameters whose value could directly affect the accuracy of sound ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

1st Nuclear Knowledge Preservation & Consolidation (NKP&C) Workshop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Nuclear knowledge had been build up continuously since the middle of the last century. After Chernobyl in 1986 the public opinion changed leading to a gradual phasing out process of nuclear energy in several Member States.

Optimizing site-specific specimen preparation for Atom Probe Tomography by using hydrogen for visualizing radiation-induced damage

open access: yes, 2023
Atom probe tomography (APT) is extensively used to measure the local chemistry of materials. Site-specific preparation via a focused ion beam (FIB) is routinely implemented to fabricate needle-shaped specimens with an end radius in the range of 50 nm ...

TBK1‐Associated Primary Lateral Sclerosis Followed by Right Temporal Variant Frontotemporal Dementia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We report a 58‐year‐old woman with a novel splice‐site variant in the TANK‐binding kinase 1 (TBK1:c.993–2A>C p.Ala332TyrfsTer39) who sequentially developed primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) followed by right temporal variant frontotemporal dementia (rtvFTD). Neuroimaging demonstrated right anterior temporal atrophy before cognitive symptoms, and

Towards ultra-high strength dual-phase steel with excellent damage tolerance: The effect of martensite volume fraction

open access: yes, 2023
Ultra-high strength (> 1 GPa) dual-phase (DP) steels have been extensively investigated in literature. Yet, the damage tolerance of these DP steels remains mostly unexplored, whereas this parameter is crucial for the sheet formability and anti-crushing ...

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Diffusion of PeV Cosmic Rays in the Turbulent and Multiphase Interstellar Medium

open access: yesGalaxies
Galactic cosmic rays (CRs) are a fundamental non-thermal component of the interstellar medium (ISM). Understanding the transport of super-high-energy particles is essential for interpreting observations of Galactic PeVatrons.
