Detection of megalocytivirus from imported tropical ornamental fish, paradise fish Macropodus opercularis [PDF]
Megalocytivirus was detected from paradise fish Macropodus opercularis imported from Indonesia. Four of 11 fish (36%) in 2006 and 40 of 117 fish (34%) in 2008 were found to be PCR-positive for megalocytivirus. Phylogenetic analysis based on partial major capsid protein (MCP) gene nucleotide sequences revealed that the sequences detected in paradise ...

Megalocytivirus Induces Complicated Fish Immune Response at Multiple RNA Levels Involving mRNA, miRNA, and circRNA. [PDF]
Megalocytivirus is an important viral pathogen to many farmed fishes, including Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). In this study, we examined megalocytivirus-induced RNA responses in the spleen of flounder by high-throughput sequencing and integrative analysis of various RNA-seq data.

Abstract In late 2018, unusual patterns of very high mortality (>50% production) were reported in intensive tilapia cage culture systems across Lake Volta in Ghana. Samples of fish and fry were collected and analysed from two affected farms between October 2018 and February 2019. Affected fish showed darkening, erratic swimming and abdominal distension

Scale Drop Disease Virus (SDDV) and Lates calcarifer Herpes Virus (LCHV) coinfection downregulate immune-relevant pathways and cause splenic and kidney necrosis in barramundi under commercial farming conditions [PDF]
Marine farming of barramundi (Lates calcarifer) in Southeast Asia is currently severely affected by viral diseases. To better understand the biological implications and gene expression response of barramundi in commercial farming conditions during a ...

Improved multiplex PCR method for the detection of diverse Megalocytivirus in the Korea [PDF]
Megalocytivirus is a genus of piscine viruses that belongs to the Iridoviridae family, and this family comprises red seabream iridovirus (RSIV), turbot reddish body iridovirus (TRBIV), and infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus. RSIV causes high mortality and economic losses in the rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus) Korean aquaculture industry ...

Detection of spatiotemporal variation in ranavirus distribution using eDNA
We investigated the presence of ranaviruses in wetlands in Ontario, Canada by using eDNA. Our results showed a widespread presence of ranavirus in southern Ontario with seasonal variability. Habitat occupancy modeling showed that wetland size influenced ranavirus occupancy while sampling date influenced the probability of detection.

Phylogeny and differentiation of reptilian and amphibian ranaviruses detected in Europe [PDF]
Ranaviruses in amphibians and fish are considered emerging pathogens and several isolates have been extensively characterized in different studies. Ranaviruses have also been detected in reptiles with increasing frequency, but the role of reptilian hosts

Evolution of DNA ligases of Nucleo-Cytoplasmic Large DNA viruses of eukaryotes: a case of hidden complexity [PDF]
Background Eukaryotic Nucleo-Cytoplasmic Large DNA Viruses (NCLDV) encode most if not all of the enzymes involved in their DNA replication. It has been inferred that genes for these enzymes were already present in the last common ancestor of the NCLDV ...
