Five patients with penile melanosis are described. The lesions consisted of macular hyperpigmentation of the penile shaft and/or glans. Histologically only hyperpigmentation of the basal cell layer was observed with no melanocytic hyperplasia. Patients had follow-up for 3 to 13 years; enlargement of some lesions was observed, but the condition remained

Neurocutaneous melanosis (NCM) is a rare phakomatosis characterized by a focal or diffuse proliferation of melanin-producing cells in both the skin and the leptomeninges. This syndrome is believed to result from an error in the morphogenesis of embryonal neuroectoderm.Two-thirds of patients with NCM have giant congenital melanocytic nevi, and the ...

In Riehl's melanosis, first observed in 1917, facial hyperpigmentation, most pronounced on the forehead and in the zygomatic and/or temporal regions is the dominant symptom. Riehl could find no explanation for the condition, but suggested that certain foods used during the war could be responsible.

Despite many studies on melanosis thyroidi, there is no consensus concerning the nature of the pigment or its pathogenesis. Here the past literature on this subject is reviewed and results are reported on a case of melanosis thyroidi that provides fresh insight into the nature of the pigment and its genesis.

The labial melanotic macule has an increased number of dendritic melanocytes along the basal layer. Numerous counterparts of the labial melanotic macule occur on the other mucosal and cutaneous surfaces. Most melanoacanthomas of the lip show a similar number of melanocytes along the junctional zone.

Neurocutaneous melanosis is a rare neurocutaneous syndrome that is associated with a high rate of mortality early in life. Individuals with large cutaneous melanocytic nevi (LCMN) are at risk, especially when the nevi are posterior, midline and accompanied by satellite nevi. Disrupted production and migration of melanocytic precursors from neural crest
