Exponentially small asymptotic formulas for the length spectrum in some billiard tables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Let $q \ge 3$ be a period. There are at least two $(1,q)$-periodic trajectories inside any smooth strictly convex billiard table, and all of them have the same length when the table is an ellipse or a circle.

An Algorithm for Melnikov Functions and Application to a Chaotic Rotor [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2005
The paper deals with a problem often encountered in practice: how to use Melnikov's method to analyze chaotic behavior of a nonlinear system whose homoclinic (or heteroclinic) orbits cannot be obtained analytically. First, the model for a rigid shaft of rotor on a low-speed balance platform is derived.

Offspring performance does not explain oviposition preference in the leafminer Stigmella sorbi (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae): a tri‐trophic perspective

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
We studied oviposition site selection in a leaf‐mining moth (Stigmella sorbi) on rowan trees (Sorbus aucuparia) in northwestern Russia, assessing larval performance across different shoot types, leaf positions, and leaflets. Larval survival was highest on long vegetative shoots, yet females showed no preference for these optimal sites.

The Political Economy of Attention: Media Salience, Voter Cognition, and Electoral Accountability

open access: yesJournal of Economic Surveys, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We review conceptual and empirical contributions to the political economy of attention, with a focus on how attention allocation shapes political behavior and electoral accountability. The review distinguishes between endogenous (goal‐directed) and exogenous (stimulus‐driven) attention and examines how these concepts are incorporated into ...

High-Order Melnikov Method for Time-Periodic Equations

open access: yesAdvanced Nonlinear Studies, 2017
This paper discusses a high-order Melnikov method for periodically perturbed equations. We introduce a new method to compute Mk⁢(t0){M_{k}(t_{0})} for all k≥0{k\geq 0}, among which M0⁢(t0){M_{0}(t_{0})} is the traditional Melnikov function, and M1⁢(t0 ...

Nine Limit Cycles in a 5-Degree Polynomials Liénard System

open access: yesComplexity, 2020
In this article, we study the limit cycles in a generalized 5-degree Liénard system. The undamped system has a polycycle composed of a homoclinic loop and a heteroclinic loop.

Homoclinic Orbits In Slowly Varying Oscillators [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
We obtain existence and bifurcation theorems for homoclinic orbits in three-dimensional flows that are perturbations of families of planar Hamiltonian systems. The perturbations may or may not depend explicitly on time.

The fundamental theorem of asset pricing with and without transaction costs

open access: yesMathematical Finance, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page 567-609, April 2025.
Abstract We prove a version of the fundamental theorem of asset pricing (FTAP) in continuous time that is based on the strict no‐arbitrage condition and that is applicable to both frictionless markets and markets with proportional transaction costs. We consider a market with a single risky asset whose ask price process is higher than or equal to its ...

Bifurcating Limit Cycles with a Perturbation of Systems Composed of Piecewise Smooth Differential Equations Consisting of Four Regions

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
Systems composed of piecewise smooth differential (PSD) mappings have quantitatively been searched for answers to a substantial issue of limit cycle (LC) bifurcations. In this paper, LC numbers (LCNs) of a PSD system (PSDS) consisting of four regions are

Digital Roots or Digital Routes? Broadband Expansion and the Rural‐Urban Migration in China

open access: yesPopulation and Development Review, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates how broadband internet affects rural–urban migration in China using the Universal Broadband and Telecommunication Services pilot program launched in 2015 as a quasi‐experimental setting. Analyzing China Household Finance Survey data (2013–2021) with difference‐in‐differences estimation, we find that improved internet ...
