Fabrication of Aluminum Alloy with Open-Channel and Columnar Structures through a Ceramic Fiber Template Method

open access: yesMetals, 2023
Aluminum alloys with open-channel and columnar structures were fabricated by casting the melt of aluminum alloys using a ceramic fiber template method. Stainless steel plates or wires coated with ceramic fibers impregnated by polyvinyl alcohol were used ...

Rheology and Multiphase Flow in Congested Ammonia-Water-Ice Slurries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Cryomagmas are natural examples of complex multiphase fluids. Some preliminary statements are made about the rheology of densely packed suspensions that have important bearing on their flow rates and eruptive style.

Glacial cycles drive variations in the production of oceanic crust

open access: yes, 2014
Glacial cycles redistribute water between oceans and continents causing pressure changes in the upper mantle, with consequences for melting of Earth's interior.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Highly efficient Fe separation induced by Fe-containing particle agglomeration in Al-7Si-0.3Mg alloy melt

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
In this paper, the melt turbulence process was introduced to result in Fe-containing particle agglomeration and achieve highly efficient Fe separation in Al-Si alloy melt. Microstructure analysis, 3D-morphology extraction, X-ray microscopy (μCT) analysis

A model of episodic melt extraction for plumes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2006
A model of melt segregation and extraction within rising plumes is proposed. It is based on two‐phase porous flow within the partially molten region, combined with only three extraction parameters. The conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy are solved for a two‐phase melt matrix system.

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Geodynamic Models of Melt Generation and Extraction at Mid-Ocean Ridges [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2012
It is widely accepted that plate divergence at mid-ocean ridges drives mantle flow, mantle melting, and the formation of new oceanic crust. However, many of the details of this process remain obscure because of the inaccessibility of the mantle to direct

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...
