Superelasticity in Polycrystalline Ni-Mn-Ga-Fe Microwires Fabricated by Melt-extraction [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2015
Ni48Mn26.4Ga19.7Fe5.9 microwires with grain size of 1-3 micron were successfully fabricated by melt-extraction. The superelastic effects in the microwires under various temperatures and loads were systematically demonstrated.

A Numerical Treatment of Melt/Solid Segregation: Size of the Eucrite Parent Body and Stability of the Terrestrial Low-Velocity Zone [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Crystal sinking to form cumulates and melt percolation toward segregation in magma pools can be treated with modifications of Stokes' and Darcy's laws, respectively.

Utilization of Agrowaste Polymers in PVC/NBR Alloys: Tensile, Thermal, and Morphological Properties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2012
Poly(vinyl chloride)/nitrile butadiene rubber (PVC/NBR) alloys were melt-mixed using a Brabender Plasticorder at 180∘C and 50 rpm rotor speed. Alloys obtained by melt mixing from PVC and NBR were formulated with wood-flour- (WF-) based olive residue, a ...

Felsic Melt and Gas Mobilization During Magma Solidification: An Experimental Study at 1.1 kbar

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2020
Melt and gas transfer processes are essential to the formation and growth of the Earth’s crust and for sustaining volcanic activity. These processes also play a major role in magma fractionation at shallow depths (<10 km) where magmas stall ...

Evidence for a reducing Archean ambient mantle and its effects on the carbon cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Chemical reduction-oxidation mechanisms within mantle rocks link to the terrestrial carbon cycle by influencing the depth at which magmas can form, their composition, and ultimately the chemistry of gases released into the atmosphere.

Petrology of some oceanic island basalts: PRIMELT2.XLS software for primary magma calculation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
PRIMELT2.XLS software is introduced for calculating primary magma composition and mantle potential temperature (TP) from an observed lava composition. It is an upgrade over a previous version in that it includes garnet peridotite melting and it detects ...

Melt Pool Width Extraction Method in Laser Directed Energy Deposition Based on Variable Step Size Erosion Model

open access: yesIEEE Access
To solve the problem of insufficient melt pool width feature extraction accuracy caused by splash, arc light, and other interferences in the metal deposition process, a melt pool width extraction method based on the variable step size erosion model is ...

Extraction of rhenium (VII) by tetraoctylammonium bromide mixed with low-melting thinners

open access: yesReviews in Analytical Chemistry, 2011
Regularities of extraction of rhenium (VII) melt tetraoctyl-ammonium bromide in a mixture of higher alcohols and paraffin were determined. Quantitative extraction of measurements obtained in the range of pH of the aqueous phase 1.5–2.0 was carried out ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A Model for Melt‐Preferred Orientation and Permeabilities in Deformed Partially Molten Peridotites

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
In a deforming partially molten rock, melt concentrates into a grain‐scale melt pocket aligned at a preferred orientation (melt‐preferred orientation, or MPO).
