Bursting the bubble of melt inclusions [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Mineralogist, 2015
Most silicate melt inclusions (MI) con- tain bubbles, whose significance has been alternately calculated, pondered, and ignored, but rarely if ever directly explored. Moore et al. (2015) analyze the bubbles, as well as their host glasses, and conclude that they often hold the preponderance of CO2 in the MI.

Volatile emissions and magma storage conditions for the 2021 explosive eruption at La Soufrière volcano, St Vincent, from melt inclusions

open access: yesVolcanica
The VEI 4 eruption of La Soufrière Volcano underwent a dramatic transition in style from initial lava dome effusion in December 2020 to hazardous explosive activity in April 2021.

The Effect of Fluxes on the Melt Quality of AlSi7MgCu Alloy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Engineering and Management Sciences, 2019
The presence of inclusions such as oxides, carbides or refractory particles can be harmful to the mechanical and surface characteristics of castings. Inclusion-rich metals result in lower fluidity and feeding capability during casting.

A comparison of glacier melt on debris-covered glaciers in the northern and southern Caucasus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The glacier coverage in the Caucasus Mountains underwent considerable changes during the last decades. In some regions, the observed reduction in glacier area is comparable to those in the European Alps and the extent of supra-glacial debris increased on

Quartz‐Hosted Melt Inclusions as Windows Into Magma Assembly and Storage Processes in the Youngest Toba Tuff

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2021
Quartz‐hosted melt inclusions are windows into the assembly and storage of compositionally zoned magmas systems like the giant magma body responsible for the 2,800 km3 Youngest Toba Tuff (YTT), Indonesia.

Dehydrogenation of AlSi7Fe1 Melt during In Situ Composite Production by Oxygen Blowing

open access: yesMetals, 2021
The technology of producing a composite material in situ envisages the pre-saturation of an AlSi7Fe1 melt with hydrogen; afterwards, the melt is blown with oxygen until the hydrogen dissolved in the melt is burned out. The hydrogen content was researched

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Phase analysis of complex non-metallic inclusions in Al-deoxidized 42CrMo4 steel after contact with MgO–C refractories

open access: yesOpen Ceramics, 2023
This study extensively investigated characteristic non-metallic inclusions in oxidized and deoxidized 42CrMo4 steel after contact to MgO–C refractories, proposing possible formation and modification mechanisms of non-metallic inclusions.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
