The AlpIce‐1 database is the first compilation of published geomorphological and geochronological markers constraining build‐up, culmination and decay of glaciers from the Last Glacial Maximum through the Holocene across the entire European Alps. AlpIce‐1 integrates more than 4200 surface‐exposure and radiocarbon ages, homogenized, quality controlled ...

Taxonomic and functional patterns of arthropod succession after glacier retreat in the Dolomite Alps
Arthropod succession after glacier retreat varied among species and forelands in the Dolomites Alps, with community composition shaped by glacier identity, time since deglaciation and local environmental conditions. Functional composition shifted from small, highly dispersive pioneer species to larger, less dispersive taxa, reflecting increasing ...

Abstract Glacier bed topography is crucial for modeling ice mass loss. However, heavily crevassed regions are challenging to survey using conventional methods, leading to data gaps. We establish a passive seismic approach exploiting naturally occurring crevassing events recorded with a dense seismic array to image the ice–bed interface without spatial ...

Hailstorm Events Over a Maritime Tropical Region: Environmental Influences on Microphysics
Abstract Building on a previous study showing that NetCAPE0C—formulated as CAPE calculated up to the 0° ${}^{\circ}$C isotherm, after subtracting CIN and correcting for water loading—is effective in predicting hail occurrence in maritime tropical (mT) environments, we examined the microphysics to understand why, particularly for ordinary pulse storms ...

The Impact of Fronts and Eddies Under Various Melt Conditions on Antarctic Ice Shelves
Abstract Ocean eddies are observed beneath Antarctic ice shelves, yet their role in regulating basal melting remains unclear. We use nonhydrostatic Large‐Eddy Simulations that resolve eddies and boundary‐layer turbulence to examine a baroclinically unstable salinity front that breaks into eddies.

Abstract In the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica's largest ice‐free area, the stream channels consist of rock and sediment that are underlain by permafrost. Substantial permafrost degradation and channel erosion occurred in January 2012 on the west branch of Crescent Stream, while the east branch remained unaffected.

Refreezing of frictional meltwater behind a sliding ski
Low friction on snow has been attributed to the formation of a frictional meltwater layer for many years, yet experimental evidence for this mechanism has remained inconsistent.

We investigated bacterial and fungal community distribution on supraglacial debris from two monsoon‐influenced mountain ranges (Gongga and Gangrigabu) using high‐throughput sequencing. Despite harsh, nitrogen‐limited conditions, diverse microbial taxa were detected, with clear distance–decay patterns and strong glacier‐specificity; heterogeneous ...
