White Matter Rafting––Membrane Microdomains in Myelin

Neurochemical Research, 2006
The myelin membrane comprises a plethora of regions that are compositionally, ultrastructurally, and functionally distinct. Biochemical dissection of oligodendrocytes, Schwann cells, and central and peripheral nervous system myelin by means such as cold-detergent extraction and differential fractionation has led to the identification of a variety of ...

Membrane microdomains and proteomics: Lessons from tetraspanin microdomains and comparison with lipid rafts

PROTEOMICS, 2006
AbstractBiological membranes are compartmentalized into microdomains that exhibit particular lipid and protein compositions. Membrane microdomains, such as tetraspanin‐enriched microdomains and lipid rafts, have been suggested to play a role in a variety of physiological and pathological processes.

Visualization of PKA activity in plasma membrane microdomains

Mol. BioSyst., 2011
Membrane rafts are sphingolipid- and cholesterol-rich microdomains that contain dynamic arrangements of signaling proteins. Notably, various components of the ubiquitous cAMP/Protein Kinase A (PKA) pathway, including β-adrenergic receptors (β-ARs), G proteins, and adenylyl cyclases (ACs), have been shown to localize differentially between membrane ...

Microdomains of SNARE Proteins in the Plasma Membrane

2013
Exocytosis is catalyzed by the engagement of SNARE proteins embedded in the plasma membrane with complementary SNAREs in the membrane of trafficking vesicles undergoing exocytosis. In most cells studied so far, SNAREs are not randomly distributed across the plasma membrane but are clustered and segregated in discrete membrane domains of defined size ...

Presence of detergent-resistant microdomains in lysosomal membranes

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2002
We examined the association of acetyl-CoA:alpha-glucosaminide N-acetyltransferase, a lysosomal enzyme participating in the degradation of heparan sulfate with other components of the lysosomal membrane. We prepared lysosomal membranes from human placenta and treated them with zwitterionic and non-ionic detergents.
