Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

MultiCycPermea: accurate and interpretable prediction of cyclic peptide permeability using a multimodal image-sequence model

open access: yesBMC Biology
Background Cyclic peptides, known for their high binding affinity and low toxicity, show potential as innovative drugs for targeting “undruggable” proteins. However, their therapeutic efficacy is often hindered by poor membrane permeability.

CORRELATION BETWEEN POLYMER PACKING AND GAS TRANSPORT PROPERTIES FOR CO2/N2 SEPARATION IN GLASSY FLUORINATED POLYIMIDE MEMBRANE [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Science and Technology, 2016
Gas separation performance of a membrane highly hinges on its physical properties. In this study, the interplay between polymer packing of a membrane and its gas transport behaviours (permeability and selectivity) was investigated through a series of ...

CO2 Permeability of Biological Membranes and Role of CO2 Channels

open access: yesMembranes, 2017
We summarize here, mainly for mammalian systems, the present knowledge of (a) the membrane CO2 permeabilities in various tissues; (b) the physiological significance of the value of the CO2 permeability; (c) the mechanisms by which membrane CO2 ...

Combined Effect of Nitrofurantoin and Plant Surfactant on Bacteria Phospholipid Membrane

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Due to the increasing use of antibiotics, measures are being taken to improve their removal from the natural environment. The support of biodegradation with natural surfactants that increase the bioavailability of impurities for microorganisms that ...

Mass transfer, fluid flow and membrane properties in flat and corrugated plate hyperfiltration modules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Concentration polarisation, decreasing the efficiency in membrane separation processes, can be reduced by increasing mass transfer between membrane surface and bulk of the feed stream.

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Lysosome membrane permeability to amines

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1997
The permeability of rat liver lysosomes to xenobiotic organic compounds possessing nitrogen functions was investigated, using an osmotic-protection methodology. It was first shown that rat liver lysosomes are stable for at least one hour when incubated in 250 mM sucrose within the pH range 5 to 9. Primary and tertiary amines with pKa values within this

The stability of supported liquid membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
In this paper a new hypothesis about the instability mechanism of SLMs will be discussed: emulsion formation induced by lateral shear forces. Experimental results show that a water phase with a low salt concentration which flows along the membrane ...

Molecular imaging predicts trastuzumab‐deruxtecan (T‐DXd) response in head and neck cancer xenograft models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Trastuzumab‐deruxtecan, a HER2‐targeting antibody‐drug conjugate, shows promising antitumor activity in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with low HER2 expression. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated dose‐dependent cell death and tumor growth reduction in low HER2‐expressing cell lines, which correlated with drug accumulation measured using a
