Noise‐Tunable Memristor Enabling Programmable Probabilistic Neurons for Frequency‐Selective Time‐Series Signal Encoding

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Memristors offer tunable resistance and intrinsic instability, making them promising tunable noise sources. We propose a spiking‐rate‐programmable probabilistic neuron using a Ru/TaOx/Pt memristor, where resistance‐dependent noise enables frequency‐selective encoding.

S‐Nitrosothiols as Thiol‐Protecting Groups for Controlled Thiol‐Maleimide Crosslinking of Homogeneous Soft Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Rapid thiol‐maleimide addition frequently outpaces mixing, resulting in heterogeneous hydrogels. S‐nitrosothiols act as thiol‐protecting groups, allowing uniform mixing with maleimide‐functionalized polymers before gelation. Sodium thiosulfate or sodium ascorbate then regenerates thiols on demand, triggering controlled thiol‐maleimide crosslinking ...

Monitoring membrane biofouling via ultrasonic time-domain reflectometry enhanced by silica dosing

open access: yes, 2012
Detecting biofouling noninvasively in real-time has been a long-standing challenge in membrane processes. Ultrasonic Time Domain Reflectometry (UTDR) offers the potential to address this challenge when used in a ‘canary cell’ that samples a slip stream ...

Using molecular dynamics simulation to examine the evolution of blood barrier structure in the presence of different electric fields

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids
Membrane disruption refers to increasing cell membrane permeability. This state may be transient, allowing the cell to regain its function, or it can be lasting, resulting in the cell's demise.

Energy analysis and optimization of hollow fiber membrane contactors for recovery of dissolve methane from anaerobic membrane bioreactor effluent

open access: yes, 2018
This work presents an energy analysis and optimization of the hollow fiber membrane contactors for the recovery of dissolved methane (CH4) in effluents of anaerobic membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment processes. The obtained CH4 could be merged with

Magnetoelectric Nanoparticles Enable Modulation of Cortical Networks by Low-Intensity Static Magnetic Fields In Vitro. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Neuromodulation strategies are increasingly needed to stimulate, restore, or replace altered neuronal activity in disease. Cobalt ferrite‐barium titanate (CFO–BTO) magnetoelectric nanoparticles convert low‐intensity static magnetic fields into local electrical modulation of cortical networks.
