Bi-Objective Optimization of Techno-Economic and Environmental Performance of CO2 Capture Strategy Involving Two-Stage Membrane-Based Separation with Recycling

open access: yes
To effectively implement complex CO2 capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) processes, it is essential to optimize their design by considering various factors.

Fouling-resistant reverse osmosis membranes grafted with 2-aminoethanethiol having a low interaction energy with charged foulants

open access: yesnpj Clean Water
Many fouling-resistant materials have been grafted or coated on the RO membrane surface for fouling-resistance. However, these modified RO membranes still exhibit a fast flux drop towards small charged organic foulants.

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

The Use of Solubility Parameters to Select Membrane Materials for Pervaporation of Organic Mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Pevaporation is a method for separating volatile components from liquid mixtures at ambient temperatures. The paint processing industry uses Hansen solubility parameters (HSP) to indicate polymer solubility.

Double-defense barrier design for anti-fouling separation membrane with the biological catalysis and hydrogel coating for dye/salt separation [PDF]

open access: yes
Membrane fouling, including the accumulation of bacteria, oil and dyes on the membrane surface, could reduce the permeability and selectivity of the separation membrane.

Dual-metal-doped perovskite adsorbents for efficient removal of humic acid

open access: yesNature Communications
Humic acid (HA), a complex organic compound of natural matter, is harmless on its own but can form carcinogenic disinfection byproducts, such as trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids, during water chlorination and disinfection processes, posing serious ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Facile auto-combustion synthesis for oxygen separation membrane application

open access: yes, 2009
The potential application of combustion synthesis of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ (LSCF) based on a modified ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)-citrate complexing method with NH4NO3 as combustion aid for ceramic oxygen separation membrane was ...

Mussel-Inspired Surface Functionalization of AEM for Simultaneously Improved Monovalent Anion Selectivity and Antibacterial Property

open access: yesMembranes, 2019
A facile membrane surface modification process for improving permselectivity and antimicrobial property was proposed. A polydopamine (PDA) coating was firstly fabricated on pristine anion exchange membrane (AEM), followed by in situ reduction of Ag ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in
