Effects of hydraulic retention time on adsorption behaviours of EPS in an A/O-MBR: biofouling study with QCM-D

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Extra-cellular polymeric substances (EPS) are a major cause of membrane fouling in membrane bioreactors (MBRs). In this study, an anoxic–oxic membrane bioreactor (A/O-MBR) was run continuously for 98 days.

Translating whole‐genome doubling into precision medicine in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Whole‐genome doubling creates a WGD‐positive tumor state characterized by persistent chromosomal instability, karyotypic diversification, and cellular stress. These same biological pressures drive aggressive tumor evolution while exposing therapeutic vulnerabilities, providing a rationale for WGD‐informed precision medicine. Whole‐genome doubling (WGD)

Zeolitic imidazolate framework ZIF-7 based molecular sieve membrane for hydrogen separation

open access: yes, 2010
Hydrogen-based energy system could address issues related to global climate change, energy security, and local air pollution. Thermally and hydrothermally stable microporous membranes with intrinsic high H(2)/CO(2) selectivity are highly demanded.

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

Electrochemical reactor with carbon membrane electrodes for efficient phenol removal via anode and cathode synergism

open access: yesnpj Clean Water
Current electrochemical membrane reactors (EMRs) focus on half-cell reactions, which limits their efficiency. Herein, an EMR-P with full-cell reactions was constructed using a carbon membrane (CM) as the cathode and a TiO2-loaded CM as the anode ...

Pharmacological chromatin remodeling enhances response to estrogen therapy in ER+ breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Estrogen therapy elicits clinical benefit in ~ 30% of patients with endocrine‐resistant estrogen receptor (ER)‐positive breast cancer. Based on findings that ER transcriptional activation underlies response to estrogen therapy, we tested the effects of epigenetic dysregulation via pharmacological inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACi).

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Mono-/monovalent ions separation through an electro-nanofiltration

open access: yesAdvanced Membranes
The separation of mono-/monovalent ions posed a long-standing challenge due to nearly identical physicochemical properties. To address the challenge, an electro-nanofiltration (ENF) strategy was proposed to separate K+/Li+ with the assistance of ...

Arginine methylation as a regulatory ratchet in cancer: From substrate selection to malignant‐state stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Arginine methylation can be viewed as a persistence‐prone post‐translational modification regulated by a network of PRMTs. Competitive and compensatory interactions among PRMTs can redistribute methylation across substrate pools shaped by sequence, structural, spatial, and environmental layers, reinforcing RNA‐processing, chromatin, and signaling ...
