Membrane fouling by emulsified oil: a review

open access: yes, 2020
Separation of liquid–liquid emulsions is a challenging problem that has gained importance with the development of unconventional oil resources. Large volumes of water contaminated by emulsified oil need to be treated for safe disposal or efficient reuse.

Electrospinning in membrane contactor: manufacturing Elec-PVDF/SiO2 superhydrophobic surface for efficient flue gas desulphurization applications

open access: yesGreen Chemical Engineering, 2021
In membrane contactors, maintaining a high SO2 absorption flux and an excellent wetting resistance are crucial for hazardous gas removal. In this study, we adopted an electrospinning strategy to fabricate highly robust superhydrophobic dual-layer Elec ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Catalytic reactors with membrane separation

open access: yes, 2015
The combination of membrane separation and catalytic reactors in the so-called membrane reactor concept provides a high degree of process integration that results in substantial process intensification. In particular, combining perovskite-based membranes

Fabrication of PVDF ultrafiltration membrane using modified thermally induced phase separation: The role of amphiphilic and hydrophilic non-solvents

open access: yes, 2023
The use of amphiphilic pore formers and hydrophilic non-solvents has demonstrated its effectiveness in improving the surface porosity and permeability of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) ultrafiltration (UF) membranes through the nonsolvent induced phase ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Smart light-responsive hierarchical metal organic frameworks constructed mixed matrix membranes for efficient gas separation

open access: yesGreen Chemical Engineering, 2022
One type of new light-responsive hierarchical metal organic framework (MOF) has been successfully prepared using Co(NO3)3·6H2O as the metal salt and 4,4′-azobenzenedicarboxylic acid as the ligand by microwave method for the first time.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.
