Structure and oxygen permeability of a dual-phase membrane

open access: yes, 2003
The dual-phase membrane of La0.15Sr0.85Ga0.3Fe0.7O3-delta-Ba0.5Sr0.5Fe0.2Co0.8O3-delta (LSGF-BSCF) was prepared successfully. This membrane was characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron probe micro ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Structural characterisation of outer membrane proteins from Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato by small-angle X-ray scattering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Forming the interface between the bacterial cell and the host, the outer membrane of Borrelia is known to play a key role in pathogenicity. Although Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato are considered to be Gram-negative, their outer membrane is unique ...

Nonlinear analysis of orthotropic membrane and shell structures including fluid-structure interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this work, membrane and shell structures with large deformations are studied. In the structural part of this work, a new methodology for the analysis of geometrically nonlinear orthotropic membrane and rotation-free shell elements is developed based ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Structural insights into human organic cation transporter 1 transport and inhibition

open access: yesCell Discovery
The human organic cation transporter 1 (hOCT1), also known as SLC22A1, is integral to hepatic uptake of structurally diversified endogenous and exogenous organic cations, influencing both metabolism and drug pharmacokinetics. hOCT1 has been implicated in

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Effect of structure of PVDF membranes on the performance of membrane distillation

open access: yes, 2015
Poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene), PVDF-HFP, hollow fiber membranes were prepared by the dry/wet spinning technique using different copolymer concentrations in the dope solutions ranging from 17 to 24 wt.%.

Biogenesis of specialized lysosomes in differentiated keratinocytes relies on close apposition with the Golgi apparatus

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Intracellular organelles support cellular physiology in diverse conditions. In the skin, epidermal keratinocytes undergo differentiation with gradual changes in cellular physiology, accompanying remodeling of lysosomes and the Golgi apparatus.
