Anchor ring-vesicle membranes

Physical Review A, 1990
A family of the exact and analytical solutions of the equilibrium shape equation of vesicle membranes is found. They are anchor rings with generating circles of radii in the ratio 1/ \ensuremath{\surd}2 . It is shown that these ring vesicles are stable for some negative values of their spontaneous curvatures, such that experimental construction of such

Vesicle Membrane Interactions of Penetratin Analogues

Biochemistry, 2004
Reports on serious artifacts associated with the use of cell fixation in studies of the cellular uptake of cell-penetrating peptides, also denoted protein transduction domains, have demonstrated the need for a reevaluation of the current understanding of peptide-mediated cellular delivery of large, hydrophilic molecules.

Vesicle tethering complexes in membrane traffic

Journal of Cell Science, 2002
Despite the recent progress in the field of membrane traffic, the question of how the specificity of membrane fusion is achieved has yet to be resolved. It has become apparent that the SNARE proteins, although central to the process of fusion, are often not the first point of contact between a vesicle and its target.

Lysolipid exchange with lipid vesicle membranes

Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 1995
While the aqueous solubility for bilayer phospholipids is less than 10(-10) M--keeping lipid membranes at essentially constant mass, single chain surfactants can have a significant aqueous solubility. Thus, in surfactant solutions, both monomer and micelles can interact with a lipid bilayer, and the mass and composition of the bilayer can be changed in

Vesicle trafficking and membrane remodelling in cytokinesis

Biochemical Journal, 2011
All cells complete cell division by the process of cytokinesis. At the end of mitosis, eukaryotic cells accurately mark the site of division between the replicated genetic material and assemble a contractile ring comprised of myosin II, actin filaments and other proteins, which is attached to the plasma membrane.

On vesicles and membrane compartments

Protoplasma, 1996
Two different mechanisms have been proposed to explain transport along the endocytic and biosynthetic transport routes in cells. The first involves stable compartments connected by vesicular traffic while the second argues that the key organelles (early endosomes or the cis Golgi) form de novo by fusion of vesicles and subsequently mature into later ...

Localization of membrane proteins in membrane vesicles of Bacillus subtillis

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1975
Abstract Electrons can be transferred to the respiratory chain in whole cells and in membrane vesicles of Bacillus subtilis W 23 by the membrane impermeable electron donor reduced 5-N-methyl-phenazonium-3-sulfonate as efficiently as by the membrane permeable electron donor reduced 5-N-methyl-phenazonium methyl-sulfate, indicating that the respiratory
