Optimizing memory management for optimistic simulation with reinforcement learning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Simulation is a powerful technique to explore complex scenarios and analyze systems related to a wide range of disciplines. To allow for an efficient exploitation of the available computing power, speculative Time Warp-based Parallel Discrete Event ...

Critical Solvation Structures Arrested Active Molecules for Reversible Zn Electrochemistry

open access: yesNano-Micro Letters
Highlights Critical solvation structure changes the hydrogen bond network through “catchers”. Catcher further arrests the active molecules to promote Zn2+ deposition. The Zn||Zn symmetric battery can stably cycle for 2250 h.

HDAC1 modulates OGG1-initiated oxidative DNA damage repair in the aging brain and Alzheimer’s disease

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Defects in DNA repair have been linked to brain aging and neurodegenerative disorders. Here the authors reveal a role for HDAC1 in stimulating OGG1 activity to alleviate 8-oxoG lesions with implications in the aging brain and neurodegenerative diseases.

Tau PET correlates with different Alzheimer’s disease‐related features compared to CSF and plasma p‐tau biomarkers

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2021
PET, CSF and plasma biomarkers of tau pathology may be differentially associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD)‐related demographic, cognitive, genetic and neuroimaging markers. We examined 771 participants with normal cognition, mild cognitive impairment

Working memory. [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 1992
The term working memory refers to a brain system that provides temporary storage and manipulation of the information necessary for such complex cognitive tasks as language comprehension, learning, and reasoning. This definition has evolved from the concept of a unitary short-term memory system.

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Existence Results for Some Damped Second-Order Volterra Integro-Differential Equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we make a subtle use of operator theory techniques and the well-known Schauder fixed-point principle to establish the existence of pseudo-almost automorphic solutions to some second-order damped integro-differential equations with pseudo ...

Structural MRI Correlates of Episodic Memory Processes in Parkinson's Disease Without Mild Cognitive Impairment. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundChanges in episodic memory are common early in Parkinson's disease (PD) and may be a risk factor for future cognitive decline. Although medial temporal lobe (MTL) memory and frontostriatal (FS) executive systems are thought to play different ...
