Novelty's effect on memory encoding
It is often thought that novelty benefits memory formation. However, support for this idea mostly comes from paradigms that are open to alternative explanations. In the present study we manipulated novelty in a word-learning task through task-irrelevant background images.

Memory Effects in Quantum Metrology [PDF]
Quantum metrology concerns estimating a parameter from multiple identical uses of a quantum channel. We extend quantum metrology beyond this standard setting and consider estimation of a physical process with quantum memory, here referred to as a parametrized quantum comb.

Associative memory in aging: The effect of unitization on source memory. [PDF]
In normal aging, memory for associations declines more than memory for individual items. Unitization is an encoding process defined by creation of a new single entity to represent a new arbitrary association. The current study tested the hypothesis that age-related differences in associative memory can be reduced by encoding instructions that promote ...

The role of the frontal cortex in memory: an investigation of the Von Restorff effect [PDF]
Evidence from neuropsychology and neuroimaging indicate that the pre-frontal cortex (PFC) plays an important role in human memory. Although frontal patients are able to form new memories, these memories appear qualitatively different from those of ...

Hydrate Formation with the Memory Effect Using Classical Nucleation Theory
Methane hydrate formation is analytically studied in the presence of the water memory effect using the classical nucleation theory. The memory effect is introduced as a change in nucleation site from a three-dimensional heterogenous nucleation on a solid

Generalization across view in face memory and face matching [PDF]
While a change in view is considered to be one of the most damaging manipulations for facial identification, this phenomenon has been measured traditionally with tasks that confound perceptual processes with recognition memory. This study explored facial

Effect of Thickness on the Shape Memory Properties of Bisphenol A Epoxy Based Shape Memory Polymer Composites [PDF]
Shape memory polymer (SMP) is one of the most highly researched branches of polymer materials in the recent past. It is often called as a smart material due to its unique capability to memorize original shape.

Self-rated everyday prospective memory abilities of cigarette smokers and non-smokers: a web based study [PDF]
The present study examined self-ratings of two aspects of everyday memory performance: long-term prospective memory—measured by the prospective memory questionnaire (PMQ), and everyday memory—measured by the everyday memory questionnaire (EMQ).
