2 Degree-of-Freedom Spiral Micromirror Manipulator

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2008
We present a process for the fabrication and assembly of a novel spiral-shaped micromirror manipulator for free space optical switching. The manipulator is comprised of two different parts, which are fabricated using conventional surface micromachining ...

Impact of Chirp in High-Capacity Optical Metro Networks Employing Directly-Modulated VCSELs

open access: yesPhotonics, 2018
Directly modulated long-wavelength vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) are considered for the implementation of sliceable bandwidth/bitrate variable transceivers for very high capacity transmission (higher than 50 Gb/s per wavelength) in ...

Microsystems technology: objectives [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
This contribution focuses on the objectives of microsystems technology (MST). The reason for this is two fold. First of all, it should explain what MST actually is.

Rotating Circular Micro-Platform with Integrated Waveguides and Latching Arm for Reconfigurable Integrated Optics

open access: yesMicromachines, 2017
This work presents a laterally rotating micromachined platform integrated under optical waveguides to control the in-plane propagation direction of light within a die to select one of multiple outputs.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Optical switch using frequency-based addressing in a microelectromechanical systems array [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Embodiments of the present invention provide structures for microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) that can be sensed, activated, controlled or otherwise addressed or made to respond by the application of forcing functions.

Diffraction-Based Optical Switching with MEMS [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
We are presenting an overview of MEMS-based (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) optical switch technology starting from the reflective two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) MEMS implementations. To further increase the speed of the MEMS from these devices, the mirror size needs to be reduced.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Wafer-Level Packaging of Microelectromechanical Systems Based on Frame Structure

open access: yesПриборы и методы измерений
Modern microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) are devices that incorporate microelectronic components and micromechanical structures on a single chip. Packaging is a mandatory stage in MEMS manufacturing.
