A Review of the Mechanisms of Action of the Herbal Medicine, STW 5‐II, Underlying Its Efficacy in Disorders of Gut–Brain Interaction

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
The pathophysiology of functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome includes altered motility, secretion, sensitivity to sensory signals, impaired epithelial barrier function, inflammation, and gut dysbiosis. The phytomedicine, STW 5‐II, represents a multi‐targeted approach, addressing these pathophysiologies.

The effect of inhaled menthol on upper airway resistance in humans: A randomized controlled crossover study

open access: yesCanadian Respiratory Journal, 2013
BACKGROUND: Menthol (l-menthol) is a naturally-occurring cold receptor agonist commonly used to provide symptomatic relief for upper airway congestion. Menthol can also reduce the sensation of dyspnea.

Topical application of the cold‐mimetic l‐menthol decreases wheel running without affecting the beneficial effects of voluntary exercise in mice

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Topical application of l‐menthol, a pharmacological cold‐mimetic and agonist of the cold‐sensing receptor TRPM8 (transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 8), has been shown to stimulate brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis and reduce weight gain in both obese and lean male mice, without affecting energy intake.

A multiscale study of the penetration-enhancing mechanism of menthol

open access: yesJournal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences, 2019
Objective: Transdermal drug delivery systems represent a critical focus in the pharmaceutics field; however, their use is limited by the fact that many drugs usually pass through the skin with low permeability.

Spatially Resolved 13C NMR Spectroscopy in Bimesophasic Samples Applied to Molecular Analysis in Orienting Media

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Chemistry, Volume 63, Issue 9, Page 691-702, September 2025.
This paper presents a promising analytical tool for the extraction of anisotropic 13C information (RDC and RCSA) from two oriented but immiscible lyotropic chiral domains in a single NMR sample. The methodology is based on spatially resolved 13C 1D/2D NMR experiments using the OVS approach. ABSTRACT The use of lyotropic, chiral bimesophasic systems and
