Differential Activation of TRPM8 by the Stereoisomers of Menthol

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
The stereoisomers of menthol elicit cooling sensation to various levels. Though the high-resolution three-dimensional structures of the menthol receptor, the transient receptor potential melastatin 8 (TRPM8) ion channels, have been revolved in different ...

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Plasma Menthol Glucuronide as a Biomarker of Acute Menthol Inhalation [PDF]

open access: yesTobacco Regulatory Science, 2018
Menthol is often added to cigarettes and e-cigarette solutions for its cooling and anti-irritant effects, and may contribute to development of nicotine dependence, particularly in vulnerable populations such as adolescents, and among African Americans.

Formulation of Menthol-Loaded Nanostructured Lipid Carriers to Enhance Its Antimicrobial Activity for Food Preservation [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2017
Purpose: Due to the antimicrobial property, menthol have significant potential for food preservation and foodstuff shelf life improvement. Nevertheless, menthol instability, insolubility, and rapid crystallization in aqueous media make it unsuitable for ...

Eutectozymes as Soft Hybrid Materials for Advanced Biocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Eutectozymes are sustainable hybrid materials that embed a GOx–HRP cascade within hydrophobic eutectogels featuring a dual supramolecular–covalent network. This architecture preserves native enzyme structure and stability, enables efficient heterogeneous biocatalysis in aqueous media, and positions eutectogels as robust platforms for next‐generation ...

Supra and subgingival application of antiseptics or antibiotics during periodontal therapy

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Periodontal diseases (gingivitis and periodontitis) are characterized by inflammatory processes which arise as a result of disruption of the balance in the oral ecosystem. According to the current S3 level clinical practice guidelines, therapy of patients with periodontitis involves a stepwise approach that includes the control of the patient ...

Switching behavior and changes in smoking behavior by menthol cigarette preference and menthol heated tobacco product use among adults in the United States who smoke cigarettes: an actual use study

open access: yesHarm Reduction Journal
Background Heated tobacco products (HTPs) deliver nicotine with significantly lower toxicant exposure relative to combustible cigarettes. HTPs may serve as viable tobacco harm reduction options for adults who smoke but are not able or interested in ...

Encapsulation of Menthol in Beeswax by a Supercritical Fluid Technique

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2010
Encapsulation of menthol in beeswax was prepared by a modified particles from gas-saturated solutions (PGSS) process with controlling the gas-saturated solution flow rate. Menthol/beeswax particles with size in the range of 2–50 μm were produced.

Effects of a real world menthol ban: changes in smoking behaviour and cigarette branding

open access: yesTobacco Induced Diseases, 2018
Background The province of Ontario, Canada implemented a ban on menthol in all forms of tobacco products that came into effect January 1 st , 2017. This presentation examines changes in behaviour among a cohort of menthol smokers as part of the first ...

Leaf‐Inspired Eutectic Skin With Extreme Fatigue Resistance and Robust Wet Adhesion for Amphibious Epidermal Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by Acorus calamus leaves, a heterogeneous eutectic skin integrates an aligned fibrous network within a hydrophobic eutectogel matrix. This hierarchical architecture triggers strain‐induced crystallization to achieve exceptional mechanical toughness and durable wet adhesion.
