Flexibility and Dynamicity Enhances and Controls Supramolecular Self‐Assembly of Zinc(II) Metallogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Zinc(II) coordination complexes with tunable aryloxy‐imine ligands exhibit controllable supramolecular self‐assembly into hierarchical fibrous structures. Coordination‐driven stacking, not π–π interactions, enables gelation, dynamic assembly/disassembly, and enhanced nanomechanical properties.

Modeling NF2 with human arachnoidal and meningioma cell culture systems: NF2 silencing reflects the benign character of tumor growth

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2008
Meningiomas, common tumors arising from arachnoidal cells of the meninges, may occur sporadically, or in association with the inherited disorder, neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2).

Merlin Phosphorylation by p21-activated Kinase 2 and Effects of Phosphorylation on Merlin Localization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The Nf2 tumor suppressor gene product merlin is related to the membrane-cytoskeleton linker proteins of the band 4.1 superfamily, including ezrin, radixin, and moesin (ERMs). Merlin is regulated by phosphorylation in a Rac/cdc42-dependent fashion.

The B3-Vla CSS sample. III: Evn & Merlin images at 18 cm

open access: yes, 2002
EVN and MERLIN observations at 18 cm are presented for 18 Compact Steep--spectrum radio Sources (CSSs) from the B3-VLA CSS sample. These sources were marginally resolved in previous VLA A-configuration observations at 4.9 and 8.4 GHz or had peculiar ...

All‐Aqueous Pullulan Fibers Enabling Visible‐to‐Near‐Infrared Waveguiding with Mechanical and Thermal Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

The role of Drosophila Merlin in spermatogenesis

open access: yesBMC Cell Biology, 2008
Background Drosophila Merlin, the homolog of the human Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2) gene, is important for the regulation of cell proliferation and receptor endocytosis. Male flies carrying a Mer3 allele, a missense mutation (Met177→Ile) in the Merlin gene,

NF2/merlin in hereditary neurofibromatosis 2 versus cancer: biologic mechanisms and clinical associations. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Inactivating germline mutations in the tumor suppressor gene NF2 cause the hereditary syndrome neurofibromatosis 2, which is characterized by the development of neoplasms of the nervous system, most notably bilateral vestibular schwannoma.

CircPOLA2 sensitizes non-small cell lung cancer cells to ferroptosis and suppresses tumorigenesis via the Merlin-YAP signaling pathway

open access: yesiScience
Summary Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been implicated in the tumorigenesis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Ferroptosis is considered a mechanism to suppress tumorigenesis. Herein, we identified a downregulated circRNA, circPOLA2 (hsa_circ_0004291),

3D‐Printed Porous Hydroxyapatite Formed via Enzymatic Mineralization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bone combines lightness, strength, and the ability to heal, inspiring new materials design. This work introduces a room‐temperature, enzyme‐mediated 3D printing method to create porous hydroxyapatite scaffolds. The process avoids energy‐intensive sintering, preserves bioactivity, and allows control over porosity and mineralization.

Tissue Engineered Human Elastic Cartilage From Primary Auricular Chondrocytes for Ear Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Despite over three decades of research, no tissue‐engineered solution for auricular reconstruction in microtia patients has reached clinical translation. The key challenge lies in generating functional elastic cartilage ex vivo. Here, we integrate synergistic cell‐biomaterial strategies to engineer auricular grafts with mechanical and histological ...
