A new manual wheelchair propulsion system with self-locking capability on ramps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A wheelchair user faces many difficulties in their everyday attempts to use ramps, especially those of some length. The present work describes the design and build of a propulsion system for manual wheelchairs for use in ascending or descending long ...

Clinical characteristics of patients with inguinal hernia mesh migration into the bladder

open access: yesIJU Case Reports, 2022
IntroductionWe report two cases of mesh migration into the bladder after inguinal hernia surgery.Case presentationIn the first case, a 48‐year‐old woman who underwent right internal inguinal hernia repair, 18 months prior, presented with pollakiuria and microscopic hematuria that was resistant to antibiotics.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Holistic mesoscale modelling of concrete – recent developments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Modelling of concrete at the mesoscale is needed in many applications, but developing a realistic mesoscale model for the analysis of concrete behaviour under general loading conditions is challenging.

Laws, Causation and Dynamics at Different Levels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
I have two main aims. The first is general, and more philosophical (Section 2). The second is specific, and more closely related to physics (Sections 3 and 4).

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Study on the Meshing Force and Meshing Rigidity of Cylinder Sine Oscillation Tooth Transmission

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2015
Based on the hypothesis of stretch small distortion and distortion congruity, the model and algorithm of meshing force analysis under theoretical conditions are given.According to the Hertz theory and geometric relation of meshing pair, the meshing ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...
