Analytical study on meshing performance of helical cylindrical gears with the coupling of tooth flank morphology and installation error

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing
This paper investigates the coupling mechanism between installation errors of helical cylindrical gears and tooth flank modification methods on meshing performance.

Gearbox fault diagnosis under different operating conditions based on time synchronous average and ensemble empirical mode decomposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper, a new method is proposed by combining ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) with order tracking techniques to analyse the vibration signals from a two stage helical gearbox.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

A Comprehensive Study on Meshing Performances Compensation for Face-Hobbed Hypoid Gears: Coupled Analysis of Spatial Installation Errors and Manufactured Tooth Flank Characteristics

open access: yesMachines
In manufacturing face-hobbing hypoid gears, the coupling between tooth flank errors and installation errors has a significant impact on dynamic meshing behavior, yet quantitative models for their synergistic effects remain scarce.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Operation and performance of screw machines with high built-in volume ratio [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A performance calculation of a screw compressor with increased built-in volume ratio was performed in this paper to establish how increased built-in volume ratio influences its efficiency.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Kinematic Characteristic Analysis of Hypoid Gear based on Two Kinds of Eigenfunction

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2021
Based on the classical space meshing theory, two kinds of basic eigenfunctions and eigenvectors of conjugate surfaces are defined. The function of the two kinds of eigenfunctions in the analysis of the meshing characteristics of conjugate surfaces is ...

Separation Performance of Wire-mesh Demister

open access: yesJOURNAL OF THE MARINE ENGINEERING SOCIETY IN JAPAN, 1982
Effects of the number of layers on the separation performance of wire-mesh demisters have been studied in a horizontal flow of air laden with water droplets. Two kinds of the demisters used are constructed by galvanized iron wires 300 μm and 850 μm in diameter respectively, which are held perpendicular to the air flow direction.
