The Stress Mechanism of Zinc on the Wheat

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2017
To investigate the stress mechanism of zinc on the wheat, different concentrations of zinc were used to treat wheat, and the ultrastructure of mesophyll cells of wheat was observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results showed that at the

Linking drought strategy to climate‐of‐origin in a widespread C4 grass: hydraulic traits, xylem anatomy and stomatal behaviour in Themeda triandra

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Climate‐of‐origin of Themeda triandra populations used in this study. Summary Hydraulic, stomatal, and anatomical traits strongly influence plant performance under drought, but the extent to which these trait‐types are coordinated and relate to climate‐of‐origin remains vastly underexplored in herbaceous species relative to woody plants.

Presence of chloroplasts in mestome sheath cells of the C3 Pooid grass Elymus tsukushiensis

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2018
The successful introduction of the C4 pathway into C3 crops would increase photosynthetic rates and crop productivity. However, our poor understanding of how Kranz leaf anatomy develops poses a great obstacle.

Single‐Cell Transcriptomics Reveals the FA9–VAP Module Regulating Fatty Acid Accumulation in Soybean Seeds

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As a major commercial legume crop, soybean ranks among the world's most significant sources of edible oil and plant protein. We previously identified a SEIPIN homologue (FA9) at the fatty acid 9 locus that promotes fatty acid accumulation in soybean.

Submicroscopical Features of Leaves of Xyris Species

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2001
The leaf ultrastructure of five Xyris species were examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and histochemical methods.

HvPHO1 Controls a Glucose 1‐Phosphate–SnRK1 Signalling Module That Coordinates Starch Accumulation in Barley Endosperm

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Developing barley grains must balance the use of imported sucrose between soluble sugars and storage starch, but how this balance is controlled remains unclear. Here we show that loss of the plastidial α‐glucan phosphorylase HvPHO1 causes starch and soluble sugars to accumulate concurrently in barley grains.

Converging GWAS and Genome Editing Decrypts MsCBF8‐MsGolS2 Regulatory Module for Drought Tolerance Without Yield Penalty in Medicago sativa

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drought constitutes a major abiotic stress limiting alfalfa productivity. To elucidate the genetic basis of drought tolerance, a genome‐wide association study (GWAS) was conducted in alfalfa, which identified a CBF/DREB1 family transcription factor designated MsCBF8.

Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes Exhibit Dual-Phase Regulation to Exposed Arabidopsis Mesophyll Cells

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2011
Herein we are the first to report that single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) exhibit dual-phase regulation to Arabidopsis mesophyll cells exposed to different concentration of SWCNTs.

Water Released From Vessel Embolism May Temporarily Halt Further Embolism in Tropical Dipterocarp Trees

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The formation of air bubbles in the xylem, known as embolism, reduces hydraulic conductivity and can ultimately lead to catastrophic failure of a tree's water transport system. When a vessel embolises, it releases water into the surrounding xylem tissue.

Leaf Tissue‐Specific Phosphorus Allocation Is Linked to Leaf Lifespan in Chickpea Accessions

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plants strategically allocate phosphorus (P) among leaf tissues to support physiological functions. However, there is limited understanding of contrasting leaf cellular P‐allocation patterns and their physiological consequences. We quantified leaf P fractions, photosynthetic P‐use efficiency (PPUE), and P‐remobilisation efficiency (PRE) in ...
