Divergent Seasonal Biophysical Effects Induced by the Three Gorges Reservoir
Abstract Large artificial reservoirs have been increasingly promoted over the last decades as an effective tool to relieve the shortage of water resources and mitigate the unavoidable negative effects of climate change. However, due to complex interactions between human and natural systems, their associated biophysical effects and the spatial extent of

Lidar cloud studies for FIRE and ECLIPS [PDF]
Optical remote sensing measurements of cirrus cloud properties were collected by one airborne and four ground-based lidar systems over a 32 h period during this case study from the First ISCCP (International Satellite Cloud Climatology Program) Regional ...

Abstract The transport of trace metals (TMs) in and out of the upper ocean is largely controlled by particulate phases, but the seasonal variability and residence time of these particles are not well known. Over three years and 21 cruises, we measured upper ocean particulate trace metal concentrations and export fluxes at 150 m at Station ALOHA in the ...

The Effect of Near‐Surface Winds on Surface Temperature and Dust Transport on Venus
Abstract The knowledge of the Venus near‐surface atmosphere is sparse. Few spacecrafts landed on the surface and measured winds with amplitudes below 1 m/s. The diurnal cycle of the wind amplitude and orientation is not known. Recent numerical simulations showed that slope winds along topographic structures could strongly impact the direction of winds.

The role of water vapor in climate. A strategic research plan for the proposed GEWEX water vapor project (GVaP) [PDF]
The proposed GEWEX Water Vapor Project (GVaP) addresses fundamental deficiencies in the present understanding of moist atmospheric processes and the role of water vapor in the global hydrologic cycle and climate.
