Meta-analysis: How does posterior parietal cortex contribute to reasoning?

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2015
Reasoning depends on the contribution of posterior parietal cortex (PPC). But PPC is involved in many basic operations -- including spatial attention, mathematical cognition, working memory, long-term memory, and language -- and the nature of its ...

Meta Reasoning for Large Language Models

open access: yesCoRR
We introduce Meta-Reasoning Prompting (MRP), a novel and efficient system prompting method for large language models (LLMs) inspired by human meta-reasoning. Traditional in-context learning-based reasoning techniques, such as Tree-of-Thoughts, show promise but lack consistent state-of-the-art performance across diverse tasks due to their specialized ...

Cooperating Reasoning Processes: More than Just the Sum of their Parts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Using the achievements of my research group over the last 30+ years, I provide evidence to support the following hypothesis: By complementing each other, cooperating reasoning process can achieve much more than they could if they only acted individually.

Belief-Logic Conflict Resolution in Syllogistic Reasoning: Inspection-Time Evidence for a Parallel-Process Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
An experiment is reported examining dual-process models of belief bias in syllogistic reasoning using a problem complexity manipulation and an inspection-time method to monitor processing latencies for premises and conclusions.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Shaped-Charge Learning Architecture for the Human–Machine Teams

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
In spite of great progress in recent years, deep learning (DNN) and transformers have strong limitations for supporting human–machine teams due to a lack of explainability, information on what exactly was generalized, and machinery to be integrated with ...

Two-Level Meta-reasoning in Coq [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The use of higher-order abstract syntax is central to the direct, concise, and modular specification of languages and deductive systems in a logical framework. Developing a framework in which it is also possible to reason about such deductive systems is particularly challenging. One difficulty is that the use of higher-order abstract syntax complicates
